Guidelines for formatting a WIKI page

Wiki pages are intended to be abstract and organic in that they link to other content and present the ideas of the original author and subsequent authors that update the information over time. Since anyone may edit a WIKI page it may be useful to keep some general rules of thumb in mind when creating or editing a WIKI page.

Consider the following

  • What is the purpose of the page?
  • Should there be some high level support information in addition to detailed sections?
  • How will a user find this page? Is there related content that should link to it?
  • Does this page fit somehow within the basic navigation from the main WIKI page and if so is it linked accordingly?
  • Have I identified a new and useful section or navigation area that should be further segmented and elaborated into additional pages?
  • Are there any related pages that this one should link to and how may I do that? In context of main article content or as a reference link in a subsection?

Using these questions as a guide, you can focus in the content you are adding and the usefulness to someone visiting. This is a good exercise ti tr to make this WIKI as meaningful as possible to users. Below are some sample reference templates for different types of site content. You may use these as a starting point for new pages.
