Ceton Devices

Prerequisites

1. Have network turners working if you’re using Infinitv PCIe6. 2. Have two network adapters in your media center PC. 3. An internet connection with a minimum upload speed of 5mbps. 4. Basic to medium knowledge of your router/port forwarding on your router. 5. Basic knowledge of command prompt and ipconfig, ping, and ipconfig/all.

Notes: I am running windows 8.1 but this guide should work with both windows 7 and 8.1 but I have no way to test this, and this will need to be tested by some running Windows 7 to confirm it works. I believe this method will also work with the ETH6 but as with Windows 7 I have no way to test this.

Ok, on to the guide.

HTPC/Server

1. Download and install: Softether VPN Server. Follow Softethers installation guide here: https://www.softether.org/4-docs/1-manual/7._Installing_SoftEther_VPN_Server/7.2_Install_on_Windows_and_Initial_Configurations

2. Once you complete the above instructions you will need to setup a local bridge following these instructions: https://www.softether.org/4-docs/2-howto/1.VPN_for_On-premise/2.Remote_Access_VPN_to_LAN

3. You will now need to open one up one of the listening ports requested by softether software on your router. This should complete the setup on your HTPC/Server computer.

Client PC(s)

1. Download and install: Softether VPN Client. Follow Softethers installation guide here: https://www.softether.org/4-docs/1-manual/8._Installing_SoftEther_VPN_Client/8.2_Install_on_Windows_and_Initial_Configurations9

2. Once installation is completed, you will then need to setup the client to connect to your HTPC/Server computer instructions to do this can be found here: https://www.softether.org/4-docs/1-manual/4._SoftEther_VPN_Client_Manual

3. In step 2 the linked instructions tell you how to setup and connect to your HTPC/Server. I would highly suggest connecting to your HTPC/Server while at home and verify that you are able to connect to your Server/HTPC within your internal network. If you are able successfully connect to your HTPC/Server I would then verify your VPN assigned ip address is similar to your locally connected computers and your DHCP server, & subnet mask are the exactly the same as your local computers. An example would be:

Local Network computer: IP: 192.168.1.x Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway (DHCP): 192.168.1.1

VPN Computer: IP: 192.168.1.x Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway (DHCP): 192.168.1.1

If this is the case congratulations you have successfully setup your HTPC/Server computer and client computer.

4. Connect to your HTPC/Server from an outside network. (Starbucks, McDonalds, ect.) This will be your final test and will verify that you properly configured your router in step 3 of the HTPC/Server setup section. If you are able to successfully connect from an outside network I would again verify using command prompt that your Default Gateway and Subnet mask match your internal computers. If this is the case congrats you have now successfully tunneled into your home network from internet and should now be able to see you Ceton device over the internet and use it to stream live TV.

NOTE: The first time I connected to the HTPC/Server I was unable to find my Ceton device, I stayed connected for about 5 minutes then disconnected and reconnected and this allowed me to see the device. This happened both times on two separate computers I setup the HTPC/Server software on. After the first time I successfully saw the Ceton device all subsequent connections to the HTPC/Server the Ceton device was found without issue.
