RemotePotato

Remote Potato is an app for Media Center that provides remote access to common Media Center functions as well as access to your data in a variety of ways. It is the primary method for Media Center users access their EPG (the TV Guide) when they are away from their HTPC. From the RemotePotato interface, you can schedule recordings and manage series recordings. You can access your music and picture libraries. You are also able to stream recorded TV to a remote device using Remote Potato. RemotePotato also has a Remote Control function, for media and WMC navigation from afar.

Background

Remote Potato was originally created as a beta software that very quickly went through a series of technical previews and delivered feature after feature that caught many forum watchers by surprise at The original green button site. The software quickly morphed into a very feature full client server platform that provides flexible access to a media collection. The initial client access provided sliver light and HTML options for viewing information and several additional apps have been created on android, iOS, and WP7 platforms. Additionally, the app grew to support media streaming and many advanced TV capabilities including full guide data and recording options to set schedules outside of Media Center.

Remote Potato is supported by it's developer, Carlos at http://www.remotepotato.com and the forums at http://forums.fatattitude.com. Development continues to be well supported with new features as of this update (June 2011).

Remote Device Support

Remote Potato is available for use with a number of different remote and mobile devices. A rich user interface can be accessed using any desktop/laptop web browser with Silverlight.

In terms of mobile devices, a number clients (some third party) have been created that leverage RemotePotato APIs. There is currently support for the iPhone/iPad, Android, and Windows Phone 7. WP7 clients include Smart Potato and Media Buddy.
