Saw this reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/com ... ported_as/) and thought it would be important to a lot of users here. I know I have disabled Windows Update KB3035583 at least twice, so I'm hoping that my media center pc is fine when I get home.

I've had Windows Updates turned off for a long time now.

And awhile back there was a discussion here about turning off the Windows Update service as well, because simply turning off Windows Updates wasn't sufficient.

So far so good (he says, right as the guide is about to crap out totally).

In Control Panel I have Windows Updates set to check for updates but let me choose when to install them. It's been this way for years. However for the last several months I no longer get notified that updates are available. Since I keep denying the Windows 10 upgrade it makes me wonder if MS figures why bother to notify me of Win7 updates in the hopes that I will proceed with the Windows 10 upgrade. IOW I will not need the Win7 updates. Just a thought.

You are on the right track. Microsoft sent out win 7 updates to install the win 10 upgrade offer stuff. That same update changes your registry settings such that you no longer get offered win 7 updates. I found this GWX control panel tool very useful to undo that and reinstate getting updates for win 7.
