Set TV Guide to HDTV view as default

#1

Every time I open the TV Guide I manually set the view to HDTV. Is there a way to set HDTV as the default view?

Sounds like you need to run WMC Setup. There is a section in there where you tell WMC what kind of monitor you are using.

He is talking about the categories to the left of the EPG. I am not sure how to do what he wants unfortunately.

Edit the SD channels out of your guide.

What he said.

Or create a custom guide with just the HD channels in it.

I was afraid of that. If I take out the SD then I won't have access to the few shows that aren't on HD channels. I suppose I can compromise by removing all of the SD channels that are simulcast in HD. That, and removing the foreign language channels should make a sizable difference. Now if we could just get Zap2it back...

Set up 2 custom Favorite guides, one for HD one for SD.

If you're asking if you can see only the HD programming on the stations, no, you cant make that stick. But you can certainly set up a Favorites list to show HD channels only, and that will stick

This, if you crate a Favorites list and add only HD channels to it, once you go into it once it will stay in that particular display. At least it used to when I did that for my wife's favorite shows. Personally in the end I just went through and removed every single channel that was simulcast in HD and SD, disabling all the SD versions. This way my guide is full of mostly HD channels and the the channels that are not broadcast in HD are left in there.

I didn't know that it would return to the last shown favorites list. That makes a difference. Are favorites lists shared to extenders, or do I have to repeat it for each extender (in my case, an Xbox 360)?

Looks like I misunderstood the question.

For it to remember the last Favorite listing used, I think you have to check a box in settings... The last choice on the page shown below:
