Still no improvement, and no good feedback from any source, including the Answers forum that improvement is on the way. Still hoping.

I've been quiet this time around (...well, I was anyway...), but yeah I'm having the same issue as everyone else here in my neck-o-the-woods. (Obviously, this is not a locale specific issue, since it is so widespread amongst the geographically separated WMC users.) Like many others, I've up-voted the Microsoft Connect report linked in the first post.
Now I'm biding my time hoping the guide doesn't run out.

Partially working now. I have through 4/28 for OTA channels but still only to 4/22 for cable channels. I might wait another day and then run setup again just in case the cable lineup id changed.

LOL. I was about to post last night that this has happened so many times in recent months that I've come to accept it. Microsoft has always fixed it before the guide data ran out so I wasn't overly concerned. I fat-fingered my post so it was full of typos and the wife called me for dinner so I just closed the web page without ever posting. This morning I checked and the guide listings were updated.

Is there something that prevents a company like SiliconDust or a guide tool company from developing an alternative guide download program? It would seem these people have a knowledge of how the guide works. Is it a legal issue or a matter of economics?

Not really. The one thing is to have a file that is compatible with the DVR software (in this case, Media Center) that can be used in place of the internal download.Mike88 wrote:Is there something that prevents a company like SiliconDust or a guide tool company from developing an alternative guide download program? I looked at the Schedules Direct website some time back & it appeared some open source programs used the SD guide. I'm not a programmer, but if the SD guide data can be downloaded into an open source program then why not into WMC?Markinsac wrote:Not really. Because Schedules Direct has a contract with their source, Gracenote, for the guide data and the terms of that contract don't allow them to provide the guide data for any commercial applications. Not really. Microsoft pays Gracenote for the guide data it supplies to WMC. If the WMC users went to Schedules Direct and received the data through them, Gracenote would lose the income from Microsoft.

I've heard of a program called EPG Collector that is supposed to do what you are asking. I've never used it since I use MCE2005 so I can't comment on how well it works.Markinsac wrote:Mike88 wrote:Is there something that prevents a company like SiliconDust or a guide tool company from developing an alternative guide download program?
