Picture freeze on multiple computers and tuners

#1

Post by raynewman » Wed Feb 11, 2015 2:16 pm

All of a sudden two days ago my 3 win7 computers have froze.
Ceton 4 tuner pcie
Ceton 6 tuner lan
hdhomerun prime (2)
hdhomerun dual qam
hdhomerun dual atsc

stop/change channels message says no tuners available
close/open wmc and it works again for 2 minutes.
repeat sequence 4-5 time then finally will play for 1 hour then freeze again.
event viewer shows multiple errors up to 8am (when my whs 2011 boots up)

I use ms security and keep them updated as other updates.
BUT
TWC supplied two cable boxes that I did not use until now and they have missing channels
as well as they do not see boxes on their end.
It may well be all TWC problem (they will be here in 4 hours)
but why atsc & qam tuners still have problem I have no clue.
Last resort is reinstall win7 on each computer
But if anybody had similar problem, please let me know.
Thanks,
Ray

TWC recently did a rebuild of channels in my area. Have you tried to Set Up the TV Signal again? It may just be that the channels have been moved around.

I think it is tied to win7 update Feb 9,2015.
That is when it all started on EVERY win7 wmc computer I have (3).
two hdhomerun prime, ceton quad pci & ceton hex lan.
Not only freeze but can not do multiple records.
I get many 5 second records of any single record setting.
If I keep up with clearing error messages I can have as many as 15 sequential short records of any one channel.
Almost impossible to stop recordings.
I had to select download but not install updates then restore feb 4,2015 date.
Seems to work but computer still updates when I power off and then problems returns.

Configure Windows Update to not update automatically. I did that after the last update broke Win7 WMC. I'm notified of updates then select which ones to install and install them manually.

You do this in the Windows Update control panel (Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update . Change Settings) using the drop-down dialog box. Set it to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them".

I never install system updates until I research them.

ETA: Plus you need to uninstall that update using the uninstaller.

Actually I am beginning to think that any and all Windows 7 system updates are potentially going to break WMC playback, so the safest course is to never install one.
