Chromecast as "poor man's" Extender
Although I typically use an Xbox 360 as an extended I wanted to use a different TV in another room to watch recorded shows. As i bought a Chromecast I started looking around and found I could use a Google app: VideoStream for Google from my Chrome browser to "Cast" to the Chromecast connected TV. You need to use the PC/laptop to change shows but for casting recordings it works great; although one show at a time.

Plex and RemotePotato also support Chromecast - for recorded programs. And, RemotePotato tries to support live TV streaming, though I haven't been able to get that to work very well.
