Does anyone know if this will free up WMC when it comes down next month? I'd love to ditch the gold bill.

I don't understand your question. You don't need a Live Gold account to use the XBox 360 as an extender. The only thing that is changing is a Live Gold account will no longer be needed for streaming services like Netflix.

I think the op is referring to how the MCX handles playback of some video types. I seem to recall needing a gold account signed in to play my mp4s with h264 & ac3. Live TV and WMV playback didn't need Gold, but other types did.

Not a Gold account. Playback of those file format requires merely a Live account, the free one. It's for tracking purposes, no doubt with copyrights involved.

Ah! That must have been it. It's been a while since I'd seen it myself!
