Problems with XBox 360 Extender
I have a HTPC running WMC 7 x64 SP1. I just bought a XBox 360 E 4 GB that I want to use as an extender. But whenever I try to set it up as the instructions say here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... r-extender. I get a Configuration error. I looked in the HTPC's Event Viewer and saw the following message: "Media Center Extender cannot exchange certificates with the Extender {Extender Name}.
Error: The owner SID on a per user subscription does not exist."
My HTPC is connected by Gigabit Ethernet to my 16 port SMC Gigabit Ethernet switch. That in turn is connected by Cat5e to a 24 port TP Link Gigabit Ethernet Switch. I have a Dlink 655 setup as a access point to the wired network. The XBox 360 has a wired Ethernet connection to a Netgear WN2000RPT v2 Wireless Bridge/Range Extender. My HTPC isn't using any kind of security software.

As a test, try connecting the extender directly to the gigabit switch (bypassing the wireless bridge).
Be sure that you're not using some 3rd party firewall, anti-virus, or anti-malware software. Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials is all you need, and they will cause the least trouble with Media Center.

I think the problem is the wireless bridge between the dlink and the Netgear. Just for troubleshooting, make yourself a lo----ong cat5e patch cable. Connect the xbox to the 16 port SMC.
Oh, just noticed Barnabus has the same idea.

Or just move the extender and TV closer to the ethernet switch and connect it with a short patch cable for a test.Crash2009 wrote:make yourself a lo----ong cat5e patch cable

I connected the XBox 360 directly to the network via Ethernet cable. First I tried connecting it to the 24 port TPLink switch and then I tried connecting it to the same 16 port SMC switch that the HTPC is connected to and I still have the same problem. I'm not running ANY security software (antivirus, firewall, anti phishing, etc) software other than Windows built-in firewall. I tried removing the extender in WMC 7 but there's no Uninstall option listed.

You remove the extender in Control Panel -> Device and Printers. Not in Media Center itself.

The Extender doesn't appear in Control Panel -> Device and Printers. It just appears in Tasks -> Extenders.

Mine all show up in Devices and Printers.
