Guide updates stopped?

#1

Post by webminster » Wed Mar 12, 2014 2:05 pm

I'm down to 10 days of guide data here, no errors in event logs, just 'up to date'. Anyone else seeing their guide data dwindling?

I'm currently down to 9 days of guide data here in Atlanta (Comcast). Did a manual update which Event Viewer says completed correctly but got no additional days.

As I recall, this has happened in the past but eventually got corrected, so I won't sweat it for a while.

For anyone not aware of it, several guys lately have been going down to Zap2it, finding a zip with a complete lineup, then re-run TV setup with the new zip.

I'm down to 9 days. Here are 3 links started just today at MS Connect threads that report it. I voted up all 3. It usually takes lots of people hitting that site, and Ceton contacting them, before MS does anything. But that's what has gotten their attention in the past.

You will need a Live account to get to these threads at MS Connect

Yeah looks like I've got the same issue, also 3/21. I'm on Charter in Wisconsin, so that's a different provider and location than the original reporter.

Charter is doing a staggered rollout of new lineups nationwide as they go 100% digital. All you have to do in that case is run your TV setup again and pick the new lineup (called "upgrade" or something like that). No need to contact Zap2It or MS. Similar thing is going on with other providers. So at least in Charter's case, you don't have to play any games with zip codes. But since these "upgrade" lineups are temporary, you'll have to go back to the original lineup name in a few weeks.

OP here. Fort Collins CO Comcast Digital. So it sounds like the problem isn't just me.

I'm not at home right now, but when I fired up my Ceton MMC app, the guide starts to get a little empty past about 9PM Friday night (3/21). It just shows blank white on all channels. By about 11pm on 3/21, the entire guide is blank.
This isn't as good as checking the listings from the actual Media Center PC, but I find it difficult to believe that this is just coincidence.

Provider TWC in Southwest Ohio.

Just run the TV setup again and see if your lineup name changed. If it did (likely), then pick the new one, and you should be fine. There should be clues in the event log that media center can't find the lineup. This turned out to be the culprit in many of the cases posted recently.

I tried to edit my last post, but I guess I got in too late. Anyway...
I'm home now: Guide Data End Date was 3/22/2014 @ 3:00AM
I ran a manual update: no change.

Here are the logs from the manual update:

6:07:46 PM - Retrieving EpgListings.
6:07:46 PM - Processing EpgListings.
6:07:46 PM - Retrieving EpgListing.enc.
6:07:59 PM - Extracting 221141597_ListingData.mxf.
6:08:01 PM - Processing 221141597_ListingData.mxf.
6:09:58 PM - Processing of EpgListings is complete.
6:09:58 PM - Retrieving EpgListings.
6:09:58 PM - Processing EpgListings.
6:09:58 PM - Retrieving EpgListing-2.enc.
6:10:02 PM - Extracting 189855633_ListingData.mxf.
6:10:03 PM - Processing 189855633_ListingData.mxf.
6:10:24 PM - Processing of EpgListings is complete.
6:10:36 PM - Update successful.

It looks like it "found" some EPG updates, but no changes to the guide to speak of. I hear what you're saying about channel lineup changes... but we're talking about 3 different providers in different regions (Charter, Comcast, and TWC). Given Microsoft's track record for screwing up the EPG, you can't blame us for jumping to conclusions.
I still have 10 days, so I'll give it a day or two to see how this shakes out.

I see no signs in my circumstance that the headend or lineup has changed, at least to the extent that the logs indicate they're now invalid.

Uh oh. I use GCI cable - a small provider in Anchorage, AK and after updating just now, I find only 9 days when I do a search for shows.

Same here in Kansas City OTA. Guides stop on 3/21 even after updating listings.

Because of this thread, and the fact that I'm working from home today, I decided to check mine. It ends on March 21st at 7pm. I'm on Brighthouse Networks in Central Florida. My neighborhood is supposed to go all-digital in May, so I don't think my lineup should have changed yet.

I voted up all three threads posted above, and I also clicked the "I can too" link on all three of them. I added comments that mention my provider and location. Everyone needs to vote and click "I can too" so we can get Microsoft's attention.

Program Guide isn't being updated (again). Is there anyone left at Microsoft to report this to - or even responsible to make sure Media Center continues to work???

I think if we order TiVo today it should be delivered by the 21st. My guide is 21st too so it is universally hosed. No reloading your zipcode this time. Hopefully it is just a hiccup and not intentional?

Someone should do a fresh windows install on a spare machine and see if they get full guide data? I would do it but I have zero time today.

Edit: One other note does anyone with Windows 8 have this happening. That would be bad if it is 7 only. I would imagine they must keep it updated on windows 8 since they are charging extra for it etc..?
