Yes, that's what I see too. I assume you need to click the "Help from Microsoft" link.
I tried and about 500 clicks later you can get to an online chat support. I didn't try ask about guide data, but can't imagine it's going to be a stress free conversation. I do remember trying this approach before, when the UK data ran out over a year ago, and they didn't know what I was talking about.

Kind of an optimist/pessimist test. On one hand, it's encouraging to hear MS acknowledge the WMC community and voice an intention to keep things going. But there were also zero promises (which as said above, is surprising since it is still sold as a Windows 8 add-on). And support seems to be getting de-emphasized...and how many of the old ehome team are left/what happens if/when all move to other companies?

I just don't know enough to have a sense for whether WMC will be viable for another year or (perhaps with assistance from 3rd-party guide data) another 10 years. And I get the impression that the more knowledgeable members here don't know either.

As I said earlier, I'm just focusing on the fact there *will* be more guide updates ;)
How long for time will tell but certainly for the foreseeable future IMO.

Whether or not MS has implemented another mechanism to inform them (yes: inform them lol) that their software is broken isn't a concern as we have back doors ;)

I see it as positive overall:

- No plans to shut down the guide
- Posts at Media Center Data site were largely ignored anyway. May as well roll it into main support site so it at least gets some visibility, albeit a much longer path
- At least somebody at MS gave a detailed, informative, well reasoned response instead of total silence

Since Media Center is at least an add-on to Win 8, it should theoretically continue be supported for years to come. If not, we have a couple of workable alternative guide data providers already. The more likely scenario is that congress will kill the cable card requirement before WMC goes away.

Back when the decision was made to make WMC a paid add on to Win 8, one of the main reasons given by Microsoft was because of the cost of licensing for disc playback. Since they didn't mention the cost of guide data, it's reasonable to assume the cost of that may be quite minimal, hence less likely to get the ax. The folks supporting the guide data are mostly doing other things already. So they are less likely to get laid off or reassigned than they would if the guide were their only job.

I think we'll be ok for several more years.

And what exactly would make it non-viable? WMC is supported as part of Windows, we already have workarounds for guide data, and cards/tuners aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

I still have no guide data. Did all updates on computer and have been constantly manually trying to get guide updated. Are there any other ways to get EPG to update? Would be glad to pay for a service that would make my media center work correctly again.

Finally worked. Had to run tv signal setup again. Wonder if it had to do with my time warner lineup change? Had to run tv signal a couple weeks ago when line up changed and I selected time warner upgrade for list. I noticed that that option wasnt there anymore. Just time warner digital.

I just went away for a 5 day trip and installed Remote Potato before I left to record NCAA basketball, etc on the road. Everything was working well before I left, although TWC did change their listings on 3/11 and I had to download an all-new channel guide. But it was working fine when I left. I did notice on the Remote Potato install a step to automatically insert firewall rules. I normally wouldn't say yes, but was in a hurry and I did it. Anyway, I went away, I was able to fire up Remote Potato from my browser remotely, but I noticed there was no guide listings. Thought it was something with Remote Potato, but returned home today and there is no guide data on my WMC. And I can't get any. When I try to download, it comes back fairly quickly guide data could not be downloaded. Every channel in the guide says "No data available." Is there something going on with Zap2it? I've turned off my firewall entirely and still the same problem so I don't think t was firewall rules with Remote Potato. Hopefully someone can help me. Thanks in advance. I have internet connectivity and was able to access it remotely when I was away.

Any time you see guide data not updating automatically and a manual download won't extend it you should always assume that there has been a change to your provider's lineup or the way they are presented in the provider list within WMC. Rerunning TV signal setup fixes it in almost all instances, except where MS dropped the ball like they did on this occasion. When you rerun TV signal setup, chances are the name of your provider has changed in the list of providers. Your current setup is looking for guide data under the old provider name, which no longer exists, hence no data can be found. Updating the name is usually all that is required to get it working again. Unfortunately, there is no way to simply update the provider name without going through the entire setup from scratch.

That's good to know, but can anyone tell me the side-affects of doing this?

Does it affect DRM?

Does it affect existing Series recordings (does it delete them and I have to recreate them all, and they lose their memory of what episodes have already been recorded).

Any other side-affect?

Thanks

Yeah, I read that post but I reran TV signal setup less than a week ago (because one evening last week I opened WMC and my EPG was completely gone, It looked like a fresh WMC install)

Lineup could have changed since then. I'd run it again. The only ill effect is losing your favorites lists. No DRM or recording issues at all.

My guide did not download again today (May 7) with Cox Digital Cable in Las Vegas. Hopefully Microsoft doesn't wait a week to fix it this time.

Same here with Comcast in Everett, WA. Updated normally through May 6th, but not on May 7th.
