Video Stuttering with Copy Protected Recordings

#1

Post by Cerdinak » Mon Mar 10, 2014 2:38 pm

Hello,

I've been using my a ceton infinitv 4 since Dec 2012 on a Windows 8 Windows Media Center. Everything has been great, until sometime early 2014.

Watching LiveTV I don't have any issues, however watching any recording on the system that has the info icon with the words Copy protected (In Windows Media Center), it causes the video playback to randomly stutter (very small pause) - audio keeps going and never looses sync either. The system is the same that recorded the show; no hardware changes have been made.

Any ideas to help fix this? I really don't want to go back to a cablebox but my wife is getting upset with these pauses.

Thank you,
Cerd

This sounds like a performance issue. Check the EventLogs for Hard drive error. Watch performance monitor while watching the recording, also watch disk queue length. If it gets above 2 then you have disk performance issue. You can find disk queue length in Resource Monitor found on the Performance tab of Task Manager.

29/59 issue? Have you tried pressing the Info button on the remote (CTRL+D on the keyboard), immediately followed by 411 (so... Info, 411)?

Then, press the right arrow until you see the frame rate of the incoming video stream (not the presentation). Watch while the stutter occurs... does the frame rate change when it happens?

This is weird, I found this thread as I have also had very recent issues with video stuttering and my home run prime. My situation is very similar:

- video stuttering only with copy protected recorded content
- started around mid-march 2014
- worked fine for at least 6-8 months before march 2014

Shows that are exhibiting this issue:
Helix (SciFi)
Walking Dead (AMC)
Psych (USA)

I will research the 29/59 issue as I've seen that mentioned elsewhere.

Update: it turns out I had the 29/59 issue with my ancient AMD Radeon HD TV Wonder All-In-One.

I swapped it out for an EVGA nVidia GeForce 610 and it cleared up my issue.
