#HB Crazy Idea Alert:
Maybe MS are weeding out all of the recent spam and will be updating the forum software again following the 'out of this world' sales figures for 8MC?
After all, the software upgrade went really well last time didn't it?
On a serious note, I'm really sad to see tgb.com go.
I've been popping in there under my robgreen000 account now and again when I saw anything that I could help with.
Very, very sad.
Long live tgb(.anywhere)

^ brings a tear to the eye!
I've reached out to a couple of people to see if there is anybody who knows anybody who might know somebody who knows who might know who knows who we need to talk to regarding finding a way to possibly provide a final resting place for the vast knowledgebase that was tgb.com - which was largely provided by us, the users.
This could be under the .tv banner, the .com banner, under any banner - I really don't mind. I just want to try and find a way to keep the vast amount of knowledge available to all.
I'm betting that we could find a few donations for web hosting if needed.
Yes, I know, tgb.com was sold to MS, therefore MS own all rights to everything ever posted there....
Obviously, I'm not very hopeful!
Hopefully we'll wake up tomorrow and find that the old url is back again....

Wow.. Sad.. But not totally unexpected. Lost a lot of good information there. Would have been nice if they would have posted that they were taking it down before just removing it completely.. Well I guess anyone needing help with a MC issue will now post here. Still.. Sucks tho =/

I shot Barb Bowman a tweet and she is emailing MS about this being just pulled. Hopefully someone here at TGB.tv can get it, even if its in a read only format.

I see your old TGB image and raise you with this one, which is what it looked like when I bought my first MCE PC way back in October 2005.STC wrote:I miss this.
I don't recognise any of the names on that screenshot, but if I move onto 2006 then I start to recognise a lot of the old names there: accident, babgVant, shadymg, ghostlobster, AndyC, Vengence_IRL and Chris Lanier. I wonder how many of those still use Media Centre?
TBH, this has been a long time coming. It never really made sense to have both the Windows Experts and Microsoft Answers forums. I've not even considered looking at WEC for a long, long time. Which is a shame as I well remember the initial excitement and positivity that was around when Microsoft first bought the old TGB.com. They had a guy, Pete Brown, who did a lot of good work back in those days, but the transformation from TGB to WEC was the end of the old world, and the birth of TGB.tv - The King is dead, long live the King!
--EDIT--
I've just looked back at the detail of that original order. I paid £85 for a 300GB hard disk! Mind you, that was only a few months after I'd paid £61 for a 160GB drive.

I remember in 2005 having 4x 300GB hard disks with my media stored on it and thinking that was a really large amount of space to have. I've just swapped disks in and out to increase storage since then.
I also remember both TGB old screenshots. It has been almost 10 years now since I first loaded Media Center. Only 2 weeks ago did I stop using the UI as my primary HTPC experience (replaced with XBMC but still using WMC backend).

It's interesting that with Microsoft seeing decreasing sales of their Windows platform products - that they are taking steps like removing their user forums and discontinuing TechNet - two programs that have been used by the "enthusiasts" supporting the use of their products.
Not only did the Windows Media Center forum disappear - they've also dropped the Windows Home Server forums - both technologies are still available in some form from Microsoft - but delivered differently than the original products.
Though, as has been mentioned above, the activity in those forums has diminished quite a bit - so the overall impact of dropping these forums will be minimal.

Wow, 1.2TB way back then - I thought 300GB was good!asm495 wrote:I remember in 2005 having 4x 300GB hard disks with my media stored on it and thinking that was a really large amount of space to have.
No room for 4 disks in my machine at the time. I had an Asus Pundit R originally, which looked like this:
It looked good and MCE2005 ran like a dream on the internal ATI GPU, but it sounded worse than one of the old white Xboxes. It was really loud. Looking at this picture shows why. The hot running Celeron was jammed right up to the DVD drive on one side and the RAM sticks on the other with just a small fan to offer any help. It lasted six months for me before I swapped it out for an ugly big black box, which I'm still using now. Quietness overruled attractiveness.

I wasn't using Media Center back then, but I remember when the first 1GB hard drive came out (yes GB, not TB), and thought... "Nobody can use that much space!"mark1234 wrote:Wow, 1.2TB way back then - I thought 300GB was good!

I joined TGB in December of 2003?, I think, but I certainly don't remember that second screenshot.asm495 wrote:I remember in 2005 having 4x 300GB hard disks with my media stored on it and thinking that was a really large amount of space to have. EDIT: No, that has to be wrong. I think I got my first M C E computer (a Dell Dimension 4600C P4 0.5GB 300GB) in December 2003, and probably didn't find this website until mid-2004.

Maybe we need to ask some telling questions about guide update switches, nominal range hacks, the 29/59 issue etc and see how they respond!
