WMC Quits (doesn't crash) when using remote desktop
Hi All
I googled this and all I could find was references to WMC crashing. I have WMC 7 and 8.1 and when I remote desktop to the machine, WMC quits gracefully and a message is displayed saying "Media Center has been shut down because it was running in a mode that is not supported over a remote desktop connection. Please restart Media Center
to correct".
I'm not trying to watch TV remotely, just need to do updates, etc. form a remote desktop.
The issue is that unless I reboot the machine, it leaves a login prompt in the Home Theater which is not good for WAF. I've tried VNC, but it sucks with WMC
Anyone know a way around this, or a way to restart WMC without a reboot when exiting RDP session?
Thanks
Mark

I have the same issue. I think it's working as designed. Unfortunately there is no way around it that I know of using remote desktop. You'll have to teach your wife how to log in and restart WMC (I use the green button on my remote), or you'll have to use VNC or some other RDP program instead.

Or create another user account to remote into.
I have one account for media center, that does not use a password and is not enabled for remote logins. It is set as a stander user. I have another account that is an administrator and password protected that I use to remote into to perform updates etc.

How do you make your media center login automatically once you created an account with a pwd?volfan6415 wrote:Or create another user account to remote into.

That'll be great if that works. So if I login with my "admin" account WMC will continue to run under the normal account?volfan6415 wrote:Or create another user account to remote into.

The media center user account has no password. And is set to auto login on boot wake.
I also use the Remote Desktop work around that allows you to remote in without disturbing the main session. I am on my phone so don't have the link but I am sure someone will post it.

Thanks. I remember seeing that awhile back just not sure how the auto logon works from a fresh boot. I am surprised no one has made a workaround to get the older windows 7 rdp working on windows 8.1 to get gen1 extenders to work? Anyone trying this? Or is it so embedded that it would never be possible? Thanks again.
