Videos not showing - tried everything

#1

Post by michaeljc70 » Sat Nov 02, 2013 3:17 pm

I've had a WMC for years and never had this problem. My Videos don't show under "Folders" under Pictures & Videos->Videos. They do show under Date Taken.

Here's what I've tried:

-Removed all included folders from Video library, re-added
-Deleted media library using WMP (Restore media library)
-Deleted Media library folder and opened WMP to rebuild (like 15 times).
-Checked video types are ok in registry (perceived type=video). Used registry script from another forum to make sure ok.
-Removed all folders from video library. Made folder with one WTV (since it is native format). Added just that folder to Video library. Rebuilt library.
-Moved above folder to another drive and added to Video Library.
-Rebooted a million times.

My music and recorded tv shows fine.

I had an odd bug crop up with permissions on certain folders after switching from Windows 8 back to 7. I always store my media on a separate drive from my OS. The permission bug allowed me to click through and view all my media in explorer but wouldn't allow media center to. Try changing your folder permissions to "Everyone". That's all I have for you, good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I tried that, but no luck.

I should add that the videos show up in the video library in explorer and in WMP under videos.

I ran a chkdsk (with fix/mark bad sectors) on both drives too.

When I go into WMP Library->Videos->Folders, everything displays properly. Since WMC relies on WMP for the library, I have no clue what could be happening.

My codec package releases have specific fixes built-in to correct issues exactly like yours.
To test if it will fix your problems you would 1st need to uninstall your current codecs such as ffdshow, haali, LAV etc.
After installation, select the [x] SUGGESTED settings checkbox in the GUI.
If your OS is 64bit, you'll also need to install the x64Components addon.
Retain your sanity, use Shark007 Codecs

I had the shark pack already installed. I uninstalled it and installed the latest verison using the suggested settings, but same problem.

I have one other idea for you then.
On the Misc TAB of the Settings Application there is a button to [Rebuild WMP Library]

Give that a try.

Tried the rebuild but no luck.

This is driving me crazy. If it wasn't for all my scheduled recordings, media browser, etc that is all setup, I would just rebuild the machine from scratch.
