Linksys DMA2100 Performance Issues

#1

Post by f5snopro » Thu Aug 15, 2013 9:22 pm

I've recently been experiencing trouble when watching TV on my Linksys DMA2100 extender. My setup is as follows:

Mac Mini i5 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD w/ Windows 7 Media Center
4TB External Drive connected via Firewire 800 (Recorded TV Storage)
Gigabit Network
WD N900 Router w/ FastTrack QoS enabled
Linksys DMA2100 Extender

I experience freezing and the dreaded "Insufficient Bandwidth" messages when watching LiveTV or Recorded, with or without the Mac Mini idle. I swapped out my Linksys E3000 running DD-WRT thinking that might be the problem, going with the stock Western Digital N900. No luck. Borrowed an Xbox 360 S and tried it - same issue. I switched my NIC on the Mini to 100Mbps. Still nothing. I'm at a loss as to what the problem could be. Firewire 800 from the drive should be sufficient enough to watch a recorded show. Anyone have other suggestions of what the issue might be?

Thanks for your help!

Just to be that guy, the linksys is wired to the router as well, correct? You're not trying to use it over wireless?

You don't state whether the DMA2100 is connected wirelessly or wired?

Assuming it's wired, have you tried testing it at another location? Do you have a HDMI monitor that you can hook it up to next to the router?

Sorry, it's wired. Cat 5e. I've tried it in two different wired locations in the house -- basement and bedroom.

And does it do the same with QoS disabled?

Yep. It's the same both ways. The old E3000 router didn't have it enabled, figured I'd give it a try on the new N900.

How do the wires look? No damage/fraying - specifically at the ends? The pairs all seem to be firmly in the RJ45 plug? Tried swapping the ethernet cabling out?

It looks like I finally figured out the issue. Bad driver on my media center (Mac Mini). Updated to the latest and greatest and tested for a few mins without issue. I'll exercise it over the weekend and see how it does!
