From the article:

Live TV streaming through Microsoft's next-generation Xbox One won't require a separate application, as it currently does on Xbox 360. The console will plug directly into a user's cable box and feed live TV through the system with an HDMI cable.

So the Xbox One will be a backwards step as we all expect, because you won't need to rent a box with the 360. But in return you'll get all those useless overlay features that no one will care about.

Not understanding the hate here adam, yeah TWC is basically the anti-Christ of DRM on cable but this is a nice app to have if you're into live TV.

People are happy to trade all sorts of liberties "as long as they give us X". With that excuse you're playing by Big Corp's rules, and that means they'll win the game every time.

Well yeah, but if you want cable and you're stuck with TWC you don't have a choice. And satellite's got it's own problems, starting with not being able to easily roll your own.

I still think you're missing his point. Some of us don't have a choice. For me, it's either TWC or U-verse and we know that Uverse is roughly the same compatibility as satellite as far as WMC7 goes. Verizon is in this area but doesn't serve my neighborhood so that just leaves TWC. TWC locks everything except for locals so I can't freely share my content. I can even get all of the On-demand content using the TWC app on my Android devices but not my cablecard - it just sucks but it's the best that some of us can do. I signed up again for cable after several years of OTA only but I needed cable for internet anyway so it just made economic sense to get a bundled TWC package. Eliminated an AT&T landline bill while bundling all three to TWC. Just wish there was more choice as to who is one's provider in the competition category. That's the only way to force someone like TWC to change.

I repeat: you do have a choice, and that choice is "don't buy their product". I'm dead serious. If the providers in your area don't serve you well, then don't reward them by paying them to serve you in a crappy manner. Find your entertainment elsewhere.

yes, *not* having cable TV is quite an option--and more and more people are going that route nowadays.

Don't get too excited. XBOX360 has had FiOS for a while now, but the catch is that you have to have Live Gold to play it. So, not only are you paying for your Cable bill, but you also have to pay for LiveGold to view it.

I'd rather pay $3.99/month for the 6 streams I can get with the CableCard and not having to pay any other fees.

I don't have Time Warner. I know Comcast(on demand) and Verizon already have deals with Microsoft for this. I'm simply posting showing where Microsoft is heading. Its still a viable option for someone who doesn't want to pay $10 for a company box and already pays for live gold. I use my infinitv for my content but occasionally use hbo go and Comcast on demand through my Xbox extender(I got a free year of gold with my Xbox bundle purchase).

The FiOS App works, but there are limited number of channels you can get. You don't get all of your FiOS channels in the app.
