Tuner and signal problems

#1

Post by BangBang » Wed Jun 05, 2013 7:33 am

I'm hoping an expert can make some sense of this. I've been having trouble tuning certain channels since last yr when i got this card. Been thru tickets, installed beta stuff, windows update stuff, etc. I was looking thru the diag screens in WMC and discovered something. Tuners 1,2,3 won't tune and all have same -10db signal. Tuner 4 pops right up with the channels and shows 1.8db signal. Is this a sign of a bum infinitv? I've also been dealing with the card vanishing completely every couple days requiring a reboot to fix. I took some pics to make it easier to understand hopefully. Tuner 3 pic is same as 1&2 but only 3 attachments allowed. Someone save my sanity!

I thought they removed the WMC diagnostic tool in the latest ceton updates? If so, it would seem you're not using the latest version. That being said, I doubt that's the problem. Are you still under warranty?

He's using the one built into WMC. It is a bit strange to have such a gap in signal strength. Try checking right from the ceton page and tune all tuners to the same channel. Type 192.168.200.1 into your browser to get there.

You may want to grab a copy of the CetonSignals.hta script to help you see more information at once about the state of your tuners.

http://experts.windows.com/frms/windows ... spx#554438

(In simple terms, download a copy of the CetonSignals.txt file, and rename it as a .hta file. When you double-click a .HTA file, it will open in IE, and query the tuners and display the results).

Nothing you posted looks like a signal issue (some of your signals are on the low side, but should be good enough). What is your ticket #?

So how do I get CetonSignals.hta to work with a 6 tuner again? I either get "invalid IP" or "script error".

Right click cetonsignals.hta and choose open with Notepad. change the IP to what your tuners IP is.

I did that. One is 192.168.200.1 and the other is 192.168.201..2. But neither work...

what browser are you using? Only works in IE, and maybe not all versions. You might have to flip a switch in IE. Not sure which one though.

I got it working. I had to click the "Unblock" button in the file properties.

I don't remember ever having to do that. What was blocking the file?

I think I recall having to "run as administrator" the last time I used it??? I could be wrong. If I remember correctly it said it was on line 315 of the code but don't quote me on that. If I remember today I'll re-block it and see if I can get the info from the script error.

Since you mentioned it, I tried to run mine. It wouldn't run if I just double-clicked the file like I thought I had done in the past. Then I right-clicked and went open-with IE, then it ran fine. Never noticed before the default application is Microsoft HTML Application Host. Set the default to IE.
