Some test files I made for those with the Echo or Apple TV

#1

I have some test files I made with Handbrake trying to maintain best quality via advanced settings and at 10Mbps for my DMA 2100, BR player and TVs I have that support files via DLNA and Allshare and Anyshare . I don't have an Echo but was wondering if someone who does would be willing to test them out seeing as I am looking at getting one in the future or an Apple TV. I talked to the mods so I can't discuss what they are or distribute them here, but could make this thread. So if you're interested PM me and I'll make you an account on my FTP where they are hosted for you to DL and try them out. Either get back to me on how they work via PM or discuss here how they performed without discussing the content itself. It's 2 files but they are the same. I just switched the extensions to .m4v and .mov. I had to do this because the BR player would only recognize one extension while the TV would only recognize the other extension. WMC/DMA2100 recognized them both without codecs installed. File size is 1.85GB.

What are the codecs inside the container?

I might want to give this a go on my ehco.

x.264 10Mbps & AAC 2.0 192Kbps (adhereing to iTunes standards - aside specific audio/video bitrate - while trying to preserve the best quality). If you wan't I can make a surround sound second audio track that Apple uses - but I didn't include it because I only play audio through my TV speakers. I'm mostly concerned with if the advanced Handbrake settings I used will have any negative effects.

Please post all the Handbrake settings. I can encode my own source material to test for compatibility. Right now Apple TV2 and Apple TV3 profiles almost work perfectly (my wife and visitors do not notice the stutter) on the Echo, needless to say they work on their respective Apple devices just fine.

I don't use the pre-made profiles:

Is 2-pass encode really required?

Nevermind, I see that you use average bit rate vs CQ. Is there a reason you use average bit rate over CQ? Just curious.

More precise control over the end file is what it comes down to basically.

A little off subject but not too far. I took an mkv which is a DVD rip that would not play on the echo and converted it to *.wtv and it played back flawlessly for two plus hours, the entire length of the movie.

I did the same last weekend. The .mkv continuously starts and stops at at about 2 second intervals for as long as I could stand to watch it. When converted to .wtv, it played perfectly.

And which of the optional arguments to ToDVRMS did you use to get the version that worked for you?

I actually used the GUI which is in the download, BTW, but I think that it is -v and -wtv.
