[Resolved] Unable to Install My Media Center

#1

Post by egnlsn » Thu Jan 24, 2013 9:54 pm

I recently upgraded my desktop to Windows 8 Pro. I needed a Media Center and found Ceton's MyMediaCenter (after buying the app from the Microsoft App Store). Downloaded it, but when I try to install it, I get the following message: "Ceton MyMediaCenter (x64) can only be installed on Microsoft Windows 8 Professional." The installation then aborts and the installer package closes.

You need Windows 8 Pro with the Windows Media Center:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... ture-packs

My Media Center is not a replacement for Windows Media Center it is a companion to control, manage, and start playback of tv/movies to your WMC PC or extender.

Thank you!

Now that I know that, is there anyway I can get a refund for my purchase from the Windows App Store so that I can buy it for my tablet?

If you are logged in on the same account on both PCs you can download an install them on both PCs with 1 purchase just fine.

Unfortunately microsoft gives absolutely no way of letting any developer refund money or even a way for a user to request a refund for apps. If you aren't using the same account on them, send me an e-mail mymediacenter@cetoncorp.com and we will figure something out.

I am having this same problem, but with Windows 7.

The install is brand new. At first I received an error about .net framework. I installed that. Then I got the error in the image below. I thought that perhaps since I hadn't ran Windows Updates yet that I would run them all and try again. I installed all updates but again got that error message.

I sent Motz a PM and he replied back with this link to the installer. This is the one I tried using http://update.cetoncorp.com/get/mymediacenter/w7/latest

I took a screen shot of what it looks like with the control panel behind it confirming I have Windows 7 Ultimate

It does not look like you have SP1 installed on your PC. I believe it will say
Windows 7 Ulimate
Microsoft....
Service Pack 1

in the properties screen.

Here's a screenshot that displays the Service Pack 1 tag, so it should have been visible in the OPs post, if he had SP1 installed.

Strange that I would have thought downloading all available updates for my PC would've included it. I guess I'll look again tonight. Should be straight forward enough though. Thanks for pointing me into the right direction.

SP1 is a weird download sometimes on new installs. I have seen it not show up for a while, or you restart and there are a few stragling updates before it decides SP1 is ready. Pain in the butt. I just have the iso for win 7 with sp1 now.

@frozenpine can you take a capture of your system properties and the error that pops up using the snipping tool?

Interesting this is the RTM Win 8 Pro?

Can you open up "run" and type in %Temp%
In that folder you should see a "ceton_my_media...." .log file. Can you send it to me at mymediacenter@cetoncorp.com

While you do that can you also open up a command line and type in:

systeminfo | findstr /B /C:"OS Name" /C:"OS Version"

it should return:
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 8 Pro with Media Center
OS Version: 6.2.9200 N/A Build 9200

Problem solved media center actual has to be installed. When I added the key it only made it available it did not install it. So my only tiny complaint might be a better error message. You have to take care of us noobs who know nothing about computers/software.
