Cannot connect to My Media Center from Surface RT

#1

Post by Roger54 » Mon Jan 21, 2013 9:40 pm

Hello,
I recently installed the version for RT and whenever I try to connect I get the following message" Unable to connect to PC. please check your password and internet connection and try again. I am able to connect from both my Windows 7 phone and my Kindle Fire. When I hit the url Http://mediacenter:5832 from the surface, I get back a page that says "xml .......... Nothing to see here...move along...move along.......end of xml stuff" THat is the same page I get back form other PC's on the network and the Kindle Fire. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Roger

well first it is good that in the browser it is working good.

First question is... is the data, time, and time zone match on your Surface and your WMC?

This is usually the first issue...

are you entering http://mediacenter as the ip? or just "mediacenter" ?

Date time and Timezone are all matching. I had trouble buying the app in the store and found out that that was the issue. I have synced both the mediacenter and the Win RT device to time.windows.com. In the IP field on the Windows RT I am entering the actual IP of the device, 192.168.0.114. I have tested hitting the port in IE both ways with the same result.

No, that call was just to be able to buy your app. Since I finally was able to buy it I have been struggling to get it to connect.
