I have a bit of an odd problem when using EPG Collector - don't know if anyone can help. I really don't want to go back to the normal guide after all the problems over new year!
I have EPG collector setup to run at 3am and and its been doing this fine since about the 30th December (get the listings form the UK SKY EPG and fill pretty much all channels faultlessly). My issue is that series links aren't always working correctly. The WMC guide is correctly seeing TV Shows as being part of a series, and when i click series record and other TV Shows from the series are currently in the guide then those TV Shows are correctly added to the scheduled recording list, but when EPG Collector runs at 3am and fills new programs to the guide these don't always end up being scheduled to record.
What is really strange is that if I go to one of these newly added programs in the guide, WMC seems to know its part of the series (it has the cancel series option on the menu) - its just not scheduled to record. If I go to Series Settings for the show, and then click save, WMC then adds the newly added shows to the guide. I doing this daily for each of our series at the moment!
Does this make sense and does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Part of me thinks that after running the EPG collector job I need to kick off one of the WMC scheduled tasks to check if new series recordings need adding to the scheduled list.

Is anyone else having issues updating the guide data? It pops up with something along the lines of the guide data could not be downloaded check the event log, which gives me failed to retrieve epglistings (error headendid is invalid.)

I was having this issue too (Indianapolis IN). Searching google I came across information that told me to setup the tv signals again. I did that, and the guide is now back (was blank after 1900 today before)KungFuKid wrote:Is anyone else having issues updating the guide data? Well, looks like my EPG hasn't updated for a while. Expires on Jan 21st @ 6:30 pm. Funny thing though, all of the local channels run out on Jan 27th, but "cable" channels (Syfy, TNT, ESPN) run out 21st.
Anyone else having this issue.

I've found that some channel names are wrong so my setup is screwed. I'm going to setup my channels from scratch and I suspect that will sort out some of the other issues.AnnasDaddy wrote:I was having this issue too (Indianapolis IN). Someone at MS seems to have found the log on for the Connect site. I've received a mail saying a ticket I raised in December 2011 has been resolved. In truth they actually resolved it some time ago, but still it's nice to get the official confirmation.

Huh, I'm Comcast 47203. Same problem. Wonder if it's a provider issue? Do you have a CableCard?pduncan1963 wrote:Well, looks like my EPG hasn't updated for a while. Expires on Jan 21st @ 6:30 pm. Greetings. I have been using WMC on Windows 8 for some months without problems, and recently got a new Windows 7 PC. I would much prefer to use this new box as my main WMC machine as it's much beefier than the other, but I have not been able to download guide listings on this machine. WMC often reports that it successfully downloaded the guide, but I have never seen any guide data displayed. For instance, the following is in the log from yesterday:

10:58:41 PM - Update successful.
10:58:41 PM - Next update at 3/2/2013 3:07:30 AM.
It seems that the missing NetworkMetadata package could be the problem, but the following error also appears frequently in the log:
"Failed to retrieve EpgLineups (Error: There is an error in XML document (1, 1441444).)"
The second number changes in each instance.
This raises a number of questions for me.
First, is this error even the cause of the missing guide data? I confess I don't know what EpgLineups is.
Second, if this is the cause, what should I do to remedy it?
Last, if this is not the cause, what else should I look for? I've tried a number of suggestions from this forum and others, including running the updater manually, running the updater manually as Administrator, recovering guide listings, and cursing under my breath. Seems not to be a firewall issue as all other communication appears to be fine--and the Windows 8 machine has no trouble at all.

Bump. I've been running W7-64 Home Premium + MCE with OTA Tuners for years. My current install is over 2 years old - and I was swapping out SSD's, so I did a fresh W7 installation this weekend. I also expanded from 4GB to 8GB of DDR3 (might play a role, but been running W7-64 for years).
I experienced issues with MCE's Live TV setup on the fresh installs. First, I couldn't DL PlayReady, so I did the manual download and installed it. Solved that problem.
Then the Live TV Setup Data wouldn't download, and Live TV Setup would not complete. MCE passes the Internet Connection Test just fine (argh!).
I found the "'mcupdate.exe' and "Run as Administrator"' trick, and it kind of worked, (allowed me to complete Live TV Setup) but I still get errors. Even when I got it to work and I could see program data in the guide, my restored Season Passes did not reference the guide and no recordings would get scheduled. Still had issues updating and I never had to do the mcupdate trick before.
So I popped the old SSD with the 2-year old W7 installation back in, and all is well (glad I didn't wipe it!). Even with the 8GB of RAM, it works just fine. I did have to re-install my Video Drivers for some reason (Intel HD3000), but MCE seems to be working just fine.
What is going on here? I actually tried TWO fresh W7 installation DVD's on the same PC (one slightly tweaked with RT7, and one an untouched OEM SP1 disk) - both gave me the same MCE errors. I did let all MS updates install (including the Platform Updates and IE10) before running MCE and Live TV Setup - is there a known MS update from the past 2 years that would prevent me from running Live TV Setup?
My 2 year old W7 installation that still works IS CURRENT with IE10 and all MS Updates, but MCE "Live TV Setup" was run many years ago before these updates were installed.
Any pointers? I see lots of similar issues from 2010 forward, but no concrete solutions. I've run W7 MCE on a few different PC's since W7 came out, and never run into this issue until this week.
Thanks,
Randy V.

Is it possible to use this method to only populate some of the channels with EPG Collector?asm495 wrote:For those of you using FreeSat, here is what I did to get guide listings again.
Hopefully that will help some others and if you have any issues I'll see what I can do to help. Having seen the guide data gathered in this way it seems to be better than the MS data. However, it is only 1 week in advance rather than 2 unfortunately but much better than nothing!
- Install EPG Collector from http://sourceforge.net/projects/epgcollector/
- Run "EPG Center" and go to File->Change Collection Parameters... and select the file installed at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Geekzone\EPG Collector\Samples\Collector\UK - FreeSat.ini" (default location)
- Ensure on the "Output" tab that "Import the data to Windows Media Centre directly" is selected with an import name of "EPG Collector". Also ensure that "Flag all programmes as part of a series is chosen"
- On "Lookups" tab ensure that Movie Lookup and TV Series Lookup is enabled
- On "Advanced" tab ensure that "Use FreeSat Huffman tables to translate compressed EIT text" is selected
- Go to File->Save... to save these settings
- Go to Run->Collect EPG Data... to gather the data but ensure Media Center is not running at the time. This may take 10 to 15 minutes.
- Next we have to set each channel to use the EPG Collector listing information. Unfortunately I could not seem to do this in GuideTool. Therefore you need to go into Media Center and edit each channel and go to "Edit Listings".
- You will then find an entry for each channel that EPG Collector has found suffixed by "-EPG Collector". Select the appropriate channel and save these settings.
- Once you have done one channel you should see listings present and can then do the same for the other channels.
- Having ensured that all the channel listings are working correctly then set up a scheduled task to run EPG Collector at a time when you think Media Center will not be running. I picked 1.30am.
I have a FreeSat card and the majority of the channels have the correct guide listing, however some do not, such as Movies 4 Men+1,True Movies 1&2 & some of the music channels and some of the kids channels.
So I am happy using the WMC EPG for the most part, I just want to provide listings for a few minor channels.
Is this possible?
Also, if I schedule EPG Collector to run through the night does WMC need to be closed?

It looks like Verizon has been renaming stuff, which is confusing the guide update engine, because it's not seeing a match between what it's been configured to download, and what it's seeing on the cable that it's connected to.Jay wrote:Having the same problem, Verizon FIOS in Central PA.foxwood wrote:Who is your Cable Provider?th5732 wrote:Looking for help with WMC dowloading. You need to re-run TV setup, pick Verizon as your provider, and get a fresh set of channels and guide updates. If you haven't done much customization (merged or disabled SD channels, renumbered channels) it's not that big a deal, if you have, you might have to re-do that work, unless you can back that information up.
Your scheduled recordings will stay scheduled, it's just channel listings that will be reset.
