recording previously watched
hey i am new to this HTPC stuff and also new to WMC
but i have some tuners and was wondering if there is any way to workaround the following
"You can choose to record a TV show or movie that is currently airing. When you do this, the show is recorded from the moment you start recording. (For example: If you are halfway through watching a show before you start recording it, the recording will not include the first half.)"
It would be soooo great to include what was previously watched like a regular DVR.
THanks for the help

What "regular" DVRs do that?

My old DVR from Cox would do that. If I was partway into watching a show and pressed the record button, my recording would end up being the entire show. Unfortunately WMC does not do this and there is no way to force this kind of behavior.

My Time warner 8300HD DVR keeps whatever was cached previously of a show if you hit record part way through.
I was just thinking the same thing yesterday abount media center. I was 15 minutes into a show but my wife wanted to watch it so I hit record. She went back to watch it later and it was only 45 minutes long.

I'm with Adam on this one. I've never heard of that feature before. I could see how it'd be cool. It'd pretty much be downloading the show that you missed, though. Wouldn't work for ota and those that don't have a high speed connection unfortunately. Unless they air everything an hour (or other predetermined time) beforehand and them the dvr automatically delays everything by that predetermined time.

I don't think you understand what the OP is asking for. He's asking to record the part of the show he's already watched...the part that is stored in the live TV buffer on his computer. It would work for OTA, and no internet connection would be required. The data is already on disk, it just needs to be merged in at the beginning of the recording. Unfortunately, WMC does not have this capability, but many regular DVRs do.

Yeah, I missed it when I first went to WMC too. But now, we record EVERYTHING... so it's not an issue. When you have 8 tuners and 4TB of storage... well, you get the point.
I found a little program that allowed you to save the live TV buffer once... but it required some really weird button presses on the remote control. If this little program would allow me to do it "automatically" when I press "RECORD" in the middle of the show I would be a happy camper.
