WMC FS on Intel GPUs SOLVED

#1

Post by dmcq » Tue Jun 25, 2024 2:38 pm

I first wrote about this some 15 months ago and have been on Intel's back since Gen 11 onwards processors were released.

As of today the issue of WMC FS failing on program change is now solved - by Intel!

The problem first appeared with Intel Gen 11 CPU/GPUs, then running video driver V 31.0.101.4255., this broke the driver wrt WMC full screen source switching.
This was because for their Gen 11 processor they 'forked' the video driver development.
This is why Gen 10 and earlier GPUs don't have the problem but Gen 11 onwards do.
As others have found Intel's response was that Microsoft don't support WMC - so that was to be that!

Nevertheless I continued badgering and trying every Gen 11 (forked driver) since.

As of the latest release 101.5590 Intel have fixed the issue and the driver now supports WMC FS channel switching.

I have asked for Intel's permission to post their words to me today and await their reply.

Meanwhile the driver is on Intel's website.

I will post this on the Windows 10 board as well for folks who might not see this.

This from Intel which I regard as reassuring -

"I have passed the information you've shared with the team as requested.
Meanwhile, I would like to inform you that we are aware what change in the driver caused the original issue and we also fully understand the solution implemented in driver 101.5590.
So, please be assured that similar situations shouldn't re-occur.
We have received a confirmation from our team, that they are fully aware about why this issue occurred and what resulted in fixing the issue."

Wooo, this is great news, thanks for sharing it!

I'll surely give it a try and see if it fixes the graphics issues I saw on the Intel NUC 11 Enthusiast and Pro models when using recent Intel Xe drivers.

I had high hopes when reading your message but sadly, after giving the 101.5593 drivers a try on an Intel NUC 11 i7 Pro, these hopes have been dashed: it exhibits the same graphical issues as previous versions:

More surprisingly, it doesn't just affect the WMC interface, but anything else, including the start menu or the explorer windows. These glitches disappear as soon as you stop WMC.

Reverting to 100.8935 fixes all these issues:
