I can't find Version: 1.7.0.10 Portable zip

#1

Post by MKANET » Mon Nov 29, 2021 1:09 am

I looked everywhere; but, can't find the portable version zip file for Version: 1.7.0.10. I currently have a portable installation; and, would like to upgrade it to Version: 1.7.0.10.

EDIT: I even checked on Github. I couldn't find the portable zip for Version: 1.7.0.10

If it's not on the download page, can you please provide a temporary link to download it?

Thanks!

There aren't any portable versions anymore since the service was added. Gary has, however, added a number of new installer switches (THANK YOU!) for we minimalists.

Edit:

v1.6.7.3 - last release w/ portable version

v1.7.0.0-beta - service released

There is no longer a portable version due to EPG123 now having an HTTP server mainly for use as a proxy to serve images from Schedules Direct (required due to changes at Schedules Direct that will require authorization to download images). It requires installing a service in Windows, so can no longer be portable and still retain all functionality.

I suppose it would be possible to have a portable version that does not install the service, but then that would leave it partially nonfunctional.

Perhaps a portable version could include a script that will allow you to add and remove the service manually? I suppose it could determine the location of the service based on the folder the script is run from (if Windows provides that information).

I currently have EPG123 installed in a custom directory. How can I upgrade to the latest service-based version; keeping all my settings and lineups? How do I access the service after I upgrade?

When you step through the setup process, just point it to install in your custom directory. The only issue would be if your "custom" directory is in the "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)" folder. In which case, you would have to move the epg123.config file and all the subfolders into the new "C:\ProgramData\GaRyan2\epg123" folder.

Thank you so much! The config files are already located under the "C:\ProgramData\GaRyan2\epg123" folder. All I had to do was install to the custom directory, delete cache, and execute exit. It is currently running a lengthy Update progress...

Cool. BTW there was no need to clear the cache. Updating epg123 is really as simple as running the downloaded setup file... nothing else to do. At most, in the past, I recommended deleting your current scheduled task and creating a new one, but it all depends on the user's setup.

Thanks. I just deleted my current scheduled task and created a new one. I also enabled a couple of new settings, like image caching. I appreciate all your hard work updating/maintaining EPG123!

I had been running the "portable" version in a custom directory for many years. On November 22nd I downloaded the 1.7.0.10 installer, pointed it to my custom portable directory, and crossed my fingers.

I'm pleased to report that after a minute or so, it was a resounding success. I didn't have to do anything further. I didn't have to delete my current (years old) task or do anything else. Everything just worked and it's been working flawlessly ever since.
