Anyone know what causes this?
If I have WMC playing in full-screen and then I Alt+tab to switch to another window, the audio and video pause for just a moment.
Anything I can do to make it continue playing without interruption?
ALT+Tab makes audio/video pause for a half second

Not sure why it does it.
If you have WMC non-maximized and playing in a window, does it still do it? I don't have access to check right now, but I think it only happens when WMC is in full-screen and you alt-tab to another window (or back again).
If it doesn't experience that problem when it is in a window, you may be able to use Maxifier, which I think makes WMC full-screen, but it is really just a large window without the chrome (window border around it).
See this thread.
Note that this is just a guess, so it may not work or even worse, mess up your system in some way. I've never used the Maxifier program and I don't know how intrusive it is (if at all). You may want to make a system image (or at least use create a Windows system restore point) before making any change such as this.

Thank you, Space. The Maxifier is working GREAT! No more pausing of audio/video when alt-tab. Wish there were a way to make it do this by default every time I open WMC, but this'll do.

Hey, The Maxifier has an option that when I start The Maxifier, it can auto-start WMC for me. And have it start up at any page I want, such as the guide. Nice feature.
That'll save me a couple clicks.
It also has hotkey options which might let me do some other cool things.
I'll have to play around with it.

For anyone who wants the same thing, here is a screenshot of the settings it takes to get it done.
Using these settings, if I start The Maxifier, it will also start WMC. And WMC starts in full-screen windowed mode and goes directly to the Guide screen.
Perfect!
Checkmark the following Options boxes:
"Start Media Center when The Maxifier starts"
"Watch for Media Center starting"
