Missing microsoft ehome infrared transceiver driver

#1

Post by jeffwnc1 » Tue Dec 11, 2018 10:49 pm

I want to use an old HP RC6 IR remote with a newer PC. I am running windows 7. The problem is windows does not install the microsoft ehome infrared transceiver driver. All the threads I have read say to go to device manager, then Human Interface Devices, then uninstall, then reboot. The problem is that microsoft ehome infrared transceiver NEVER shows up in Human Interface Devices. The eHome Infrared Receiver does show up under usb controllers. the remote and receiver do light up when pushing buttons. I have tried plugging the receiver into 2 other windows 7 PCs and the receiver and remote work perfectly. I have looked all over for just the microsoft ehome infrared transceiver but have struck out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is windows configured to automatically update drivers? If not then when you plug in that transeiver nothing will happen.

Yes it is configured to automatically receive updates.

Plus something did happen. The eHome Infrared Receiver was installed, but not the microsoft ehome infrared transceiver. I need the latter.

https://nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html Run that, and see which drivers you have installed. This lists every usb device driver that has been plugged into your PC, and you can use it to uninstall drivers. If you aren't sure about what to do, run the tool, and attach a screenshot. If you can uninstall the incorrect drivers, maybe you can try plugging it back in to see if it installs the correct ones.

I assume these were taken with ONLY the IR Transciever plugged in? If so, unplug the transceiver, uninstall both of the green highlighted drivers, reboot, and plug in your transceiver. If you still see both drivers pop up with only the transiever plugged in, try deleting the bottom driver. I think windows is just getting confused about which driver to use.

The other receiver was a usb mouse receiver. In any event I did as you suggested but problem remains. Once again the eHome Infrared Receiver gets installed under usb controlers and the microsoft ehome infrared transceiver driver does not get installed under the Human Interface Devices. Like I said before both get installed with other PCs.

I'll find exactly which driver mine uses. From there can you manually pick which driver to use from the device manager?

The one I need isn't in the device manager. You will find what I need in YOUR Human Interface Devices in device manager. It sure as heck aint in mine. So frustrating. I appreciate your efforts.

Can you also make sure the HID service is running?

Honestly every time I rebuild windows I have some issue or another. I always end up working through them though. It sounds like your drivers are there but windows is getting messed up somewhere. How do you feel about firing up usbdeview and uninstalling everything you don't use minus perhaps your mouse to reboot. I came across a utility about a year back where you can assign a driver to a USB device if I remember correctly. I'll have to look around for that

Random ideas:

Have you tried right clicking the ehome receiver (and any other ehome items in all categories) in device manager and uninstalling them? Then scan for new harware.

Maybe unplug the usb receiver after uninstalling the driver and then reboot, then plug it back in once Windows has loaded?

I remember one old AMD based htpc I built that didn't always install the full drivers...

It worked better on some usb ports than others too.. maybe try a different port?

Gotta love Windows!

Have you downloaded and installed the latest graphics drivers from the AMD website?

They include the HDMI audio stuff don't they?
