resolution problem with xbox360 extender
I am having a strange problem since changing my kitchen extender from a linksys dma2100 to an xbox 360. I can't get the resolution correct. I have a 19 inch Samsung 720p LCD. I have the TV display set to 16:9 aspect ratio and I have the xbox set to output to 720p. I wind up getting a letterboxed picture for all HD content. Sports and news tickers are all cut off to an extent. I have tried changing all the various resolution settings between xbox and the tv and nothing looks right. I did not have this problem with the linksys dma2100 or Fios cable box. Not sure what else I can do here.

Could it be that the picture is just pre-stretched incorrectly? Press the info button (or right click) while playing a video, and go to the "zoom" section, and make sure its Zoom 1.
IF that doesn't work, I'd make sure the TV is in its "native" zoom mode.
IF that doesn't work, I'd make sure the TV is in its "native" zoom mode.

That was it! It was set to zoom three. Thank you so much. I sometimes forget all of the options available under "info".

Another point: it usually doesn't matter what your display panel on the TV is specified to be; the TV is usually designed to take in 1080i regardless, then it will handle things internally with respect to displaying that on the screen.
Remember, the TV *tunes* a 1080i signal over the air, right?
I have a 32" 720p TV, but I've got XBox feeding 1080i over HDMI to it. That's what the TV is expecting to see.
Yes, you would think that a 720 panel would require or at least accept a 720 signal...well, not necessarily. Sometimes, being a geek and knowing *too* much gets us in trouble.

Although I'd like to think being a geek gets me out of trouble more often than getting me into trouble

Man, that's no kidding. If something happened to me, my wife would definitely have to go back to satellite or cable or TIVO or something other than PC's (we're doing OTA now) rather than pay for tech support.newfiend wrote:Yup..
