Cannot play recorded shows on extender for some channels

#1

Post by michaeljc70 » Tue Nov 24, 2015 1:13 am

I still continue to have some shows not properly recording (like others) due to what I think are guide issues. I also just started having a problem of recorded shows not playing on extenders. They seem to be from certain channels. They are non-premium channels that I never had a problem with before (I've had an WMC for 7+ years).

The two channels I've noticed this on in the last week are FBN and AMC. Of course, I rebooted everything to make sure that wasn't an issue. The recorded shows play fine on the main WMC machine.

I get the blue screen saying they cannot be played on the extender. Play them on the WMC machine.

Hi...I'm wondering do you have Comcast? And are they possibly switching some of the channels over to MPEG4? I know they've started doing that in some areas and I think mine will be soon.

Also, what extenders are you using? I'm a bit worried that my extenders won't work after Comcast switches to MPEG4...

Yes! I did some more research. My tuner (Ceton) supports mpeg-4 (obviously or it wouldn't even record on the main machine). What the letter from Comcast doesn't say is that some devices can't play mpeg-4. The original Linksys Extenders cannot.

I guess I see 2 options (other than replacing extenders which I'm not going to do ):

-Record those channels in SD (maybe also in HD to watch on WMC machine).
-Setup MCEBuddy (or whatever) to convert those shows in mpeg-4 format to something viewable on an extender.

Does anyone have other alternatives?

What make and model of extenders do you have?

Something like Linksys dma2200. Not sure of the exact model.

You might get more helpful results if you could figure that out.

Let me re-phrase that. Are you using the same extenders you were using in March 2014?

That is the exact model. I thought maybe I had one character off. There are very few types of extenders.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6833124282Looking around the back of that one it looks like it has a lot of different ways to connect to the TV.

Which video outputs are you using to the TV?
HDMI 1,2
Component,
Composite,
S-Video,

Which audio outputs are you using and what are they connected to? TV? Amp? or?
Stereo RCA,
SPDIF RCA+Toslink,

Why does it have 2 HDMI's? Is that an IN and an OUT?

It doesn't have 2 HDMI ports. I am using the HDMI. I don't see how that matters. I don't want to be rude, but you don't seem to have any idea what my problem is and just want to ask questions.

I've already said what the problem is. I am looking for solutions and the TV output has zero to do with that.

A long time ago Motz (the Ceton guy) gave me this MediaInfo software to find out what format my tuner (InfiniTV4 pcie ) was recording. I just checked one of my Recorded TV files, and it appears that my tuner is recording in MPEG-2

You should check yours to confirm the same.

https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

According to the Newegg link in the previous post, if you click on specifications, MPEG-2 is supported by your Linksys DMA-2200.

I know exactly what the problem is, but it wouldn't do any good to tell you, until you can convince yourself to make a new decision.
