BIG NEWS! Xbox one to become a DVR!!!!
Finally, our dreams of a center for our media may be revived within Microsoft.

Xbox is already a bluray player, gaming system, internet stranger and media streamer. Now it will be a dvr, getting is as close to something akin to media center again. It is OTA AT the moment, but hopefully if they can make this work with the hdhrp, then that will really have my attention.

Could be great news.
Will they go through the hassle of cablecards?
Will it be ota only?

"I love it when a plan comes together"!
Too bad I got the smaller drive version! Not sure what this really means but hopefully it means we can use a DVR with an actual TV-Data Grid. "Anything else would be uncivilized".
Thanks for the info!

Interesting, will keep a eye on this. would 360's and echos still be extenders? Would it cablecard? We all know how much MS charges for hard drives. It may never get to as good as it was/is with WMC

Only OTA for now. If they go the cablecard route I may consider this.

OK, I'm interested only in US OTA TV, so this is good.
But I know nothing about XBone. Hmmmmm....that's a Hauppauge USB tuner. One stream only? Yeah, apparently one stream only. That just won't do.
I currently have three HD Homerun network tuners in play. Let's cross our fingers for Silicon Dust to involve themselves and make themselves a player in the XBone ecosystem.
I guess I would happily switch over, wholesale, from 7MC and XBox/Echo over to an XBone system, if it lets me plug and play with my existing network, antenna/tuner, and TV infrastructure.
Bonus points if they made a Roku channel! That would be superb. That would solve ALL my problems at once. I would buy an XBone as soon as the DVR bit came out. (Here's a weird thought: my living room TV is a Roku TV. I could watch XBone directly via HDMI on the Roku TV, or through the network right back to the Roku channel on the Roku TV...)
One can dream.

So, it looks like it can handle two streams, and that comment about using "external DVR's" is also interesting... might be able to interface to the SD DVR software??? Hmmmm.....Recorded content stored on an external DVR was viewable on the Xbox One's TV option, but now, the console itself will pull double duty. The console also has the ability to stream over-the-air television channels thanks to a pair of digital TV tuners

If MS is going to support encrypted/DRM cable, it likely won't be via cable cards. Cablecards are about to be a thing of the past.

It's still not going to get me to buy an Xbox.

The "pair of digital TV Tuners" is in reference to the tuner for Europe, and the tuner for the U.S. Not a dual tuner (though that could obviously come in the future).sbaeder wrote:from the article on engadget...adam1991 wrote:that's a Hauppauge USB tuner. The "external DVR" part is about how it can currently let you view an external DVR (think cable box) through the HDMI input.

I'm definitely excited, I've been hoping it'd get this for a long time. Since we cut the cord my HTPC barely gets used, but the One gets used plenty since I don't have an Apple TV/Roku/Amazon device at the main TV. The only thing I'd need would be Emby but Plex is on the One so I could just switch. It'd make it the only device I needed connected, especially once backwards compatibility hits.
I do agree that hopefully SiliconDust will get involved. I rather like my network tuner and would rather not have to recable since the antenna is in the attic.

If they do intend to support CableCard, mark my words: my money is on a dedicated external tuner that will ONLY work with xbox. Way more revenue to be leeched.makryger wrote:...if they can make this work with the hdhrp...
Ceton or Silicondust or both....
/edit: Most probably USB, and not Ethernet.

The current US tuner is from Hauppauge, is a USB unit, and provides only one stream.
This is why I'm hoping for Silicon Dust support.

What will come first? The SD Tv-Guide EPG that everyone has hope for; or the Xbox One DVR with Cable Card?
I bet none.

probably one of the reasons MS was willing to work with Rovi to get WMC guides fixed, we are a beta testers for them
