I have a Win 7 x64 machine with a infinitv 4 tuner pcie card in my pc pushing content to 3 echo's and an X-box. The minute I walked in the door, "honey the TV's not working", which lead me to a 4 hour goose chase and finally to this post. Goose chase: DRM reset, play ready tweak and update (had to follow another poster's instructions), un-install all extenders re-install, reconfigure re-set up windows media tuner, diagnostics sent to ceton and a ticket submitted (which I will now retract) all because of KB3004394!!! Uninstalled this update and it did the trick, thanks, you guys are great, only wish I saw this post first!

Similar situation for me. I did the updates today from work using Teamviewer and when I got home and opened WMC and tried to play a live show (protected), all I got was a blank screen. No error messages or Playready messages at all. Same thing when I tried playing live unprotected content or any recording. During my troubleshooting, I opened the Ceton devices webpage and saw that all the tuners were indicating "red" under WMDRM Pairing; it was then I pretty much new it had to be one of the updates so I uninstalled all of them, rebooted, and everything began working again. Hesitant to install any of these updates without hearing something official from Ceton, Microsoft, or SD.

Uninstalling update 3004394 worked for me too.

My 3 Xbox 360 extenders kept disconnecting/reconnecting every 2-5 minutes since the update. On the host PC I was also getting video driver error's which wouldn't let me watch live TV

No disconnects the last 30 minutes after uninstalling that update and live TV works on the host PC again!

Win 7 x64.

Thanks for posting the fix.

Microsoft has removed KB3004394 from the server so we no longer have to worry about accidentally downloading/installing it again.

The issue is far more widespread than WMC, and the full range of problems has been discussed on the Microsoft site, including the latest news that it's no longer being included for download: (be sure to "refresh" checking for updates so KB3004394 doesn't show up)

Thank goodness I have my PCs set to install updates when I want to & I just have not done this yet.

However I noticed KB3004394 is listed as an update for the HTPC but not for my regular desktop. Would that be because I'm only using WMC7 on the HTPC?

Thanks guys.

My pc is taking ages to reboot after the kb uninstall. Its been like 40 mins at 'preparing to configure windows, do not turn off your computer'. Is this expected?

Depending on when the system last checked for updates, it may just not yet know the update was pulled.

No, I uninstalled it from my HTPC this evening, reboot only took a minute. For what it's worth, the OS is on an SSD.

Both PCs have always checked for updates on the 2nd Tues of the month. I just looked at the HTPC in order to install the updates & 3004394 is no longer in the list to D/L & install.

This was the second time in the past several months there was a problem with an update. I guess I should make it a practice to wait a day or two after the updates are rolled out & before installing them to make sure there are no problems.

yes I think the issue goes beyond DRM as UK freeview dont typically use DRM or playview and I get the blue screen

Thanks for your input everyone. Really appreciated. (my original post: http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/vie ... 413#p83413)

I uninstalled 3004394 and this looks like it has solved the problem.

Funnily enough, this morning there was a medium sized update on the Xbox so I wonder if this has anything to do with the issue too - maybe MS trying to fix something....?

Thanks again.

I had a similar issue. For me, my two 360 extenders would connect and play video, either recorded TV or other media via MyMovies ect.. and then die a few minutes into it with the blue "Connection Issue" dialog.

I had installed Windows Updates last night and this morning + the Xbox update. Prior to reading this, I un-installed all of the Windows Updates from the last two days via the Programs and Features control panel applet and prayed it wasn't the Xbox 360 update. After uninstalling, everything started working fine.

It looks like some people have narrowed down the specific update. I hope Microsoft get's it together!

Before seeing this forum and the specific KB I went about uninstalling all 10 updates that installed on Wednesday. Each time I did an uninstall it asked if I wanted to reboot and I clicked on Not Now (or whatever the opposite of yes would be) until I completed the uninstall of #10. At that point I allowed the reboot.

It sat at the "Configuring Windows, do not turn off or unplug" for over an hour. No drive activity followed by small flurries of flashing green followed by no activity for several minutes. I was skeptical that everything would return to normal...went to bed and was surprised to see that WMC was up and running (and protected content playback working) again in the morning.

Confirming that removal of KB3004394 solved several problems for me:

On my media PC, video would stop after a few seconds with the "Driver does not support playback of protected content" message.
All attempts to update my ATI drivers failed.
I was unable to even plug in my mouse, it got stuck at installing drivers.
I had to take control with TeamViewer to remove the update.

My Xbox 360 extender would play video for about 2-3 minutes then go to black screen followed by the "disconnected" error.

My development laptop was a slightly different story. It would repeatedly hang during updates, forcing a hard shutdown. Windows updates finally completed when I shut down at the end of the day yesterday, though KB3004394 is not present on my system. Presumably, the hard shutdown caused that install to be rolled back, and when it was pulled from Windows Update this allowed my updates to finish.

FYI,

Ceton Corp. suggests that TWO of the updates should not be installed or removed if already installed. KB3004394 AND KB3013769.

EDIT: I should note that KB3013769 is a Win 8.1 only update.

Oh the joys of not running automatic updates on my HTPC.

I got unofficial word from MS that they are aware of this issue and working on resolving it. I've also heard (haven't confirmed) that the update has been pulled.

It was for W7. I think it's still available for 8/8.1 WS2012/R2.

Hi Everyone-

I also went on the wild goose chase last night til finding these threads about KB3004394. I have now removed the update, but am still having issues with my audio card (HDMI) driver.

It will not accept the Asus driver that has been working for over 2 years in my machine. Tonight I'm going to rollback to a backup from earlier in the week, but was curious if anyone needed to embark on any extra steps to get any drivers working post-uninstallation of KB3004394.

FYI, card is ASUS HDAV Slim 1.3. Tried uninstalling it multiple times and reinstalling all various drivers available online. None are being accepted by Windows.

Much appreciated.

OMG 2 hrs mucking around - why did i not come here first .. however my problem seems to have manifested itself differently - basically extenders kept disconnecting like others but error logs showed this error below. Googling that error results on almost no fixes i could understand..

Uninstalled KB3004394 - now extenders running well all 4 of them.. so frustrating this happened.. and thanks guys for being so quick to solve this...
