Do I need more equip?
So I'm wanting to get rid of my cable (charter) set top boxes. If I have and xbox 360 and buy a HDHR prime, do I need anything more to get this working? Not counting the cable card and TA. Do I need add a computer?

Yes, you need a computer. But you can go with a Celeron J1900 based computer - which is low powered and can be found for relatively cheap - either used or new.
The HDHR and Xbox will both need to connect to the computer - which does/houses the recordings (and runs WMC).

Thanks for the reply Ed. Still trying to figure out the cheapest way on testing this kind of setup. I want this to work for the family and WMC seems better for them than xbmc / openelec. So that eliminates the chrome box with openelec. Another option is a NUC with WMC.

Yeah, nuc would work as well.

Be aware, it's the cheapest man who spends the most.

Make sure the PC and your network switch are both capable of gigabit speeds. The rest of the devices can connect at 100, but the PC will need 1000.

Wouldn't hurt anything to get a gig router to go with the gig switch. If you are going to get one, look into the AC type "dual band" 2.4 ghz 5.0 ghz. If you are within the range, maybe 20 feet, live tv on 5 ghz works well. Also don't cheap out on the switch, look around the site a bit, we all have thrown a few cheapo's on the scrap pile.
Sometimes your better to spend more than you planned, rather than less than you should have.

Thx for the help. And when I say 'cheap'...I still want it to work In my head I'm already up to $650 on this 'project'. It would take about 20 months for it to pay for itself.

It's your choice, pay for 20 months, or pay for life. I think it's a small price to pay for freedom.

Just a quick update...I bought an i5 Nuc, 4GB ram, 128 SSD, 500GB HDD, Int-422 remote, and HDHR Prime. Cat5e into my Fast Internet router (not Gb), and so far everything impressive. MyChannelLogos looks really slick. Still have some tweaks to make to smooth out process. Not sure if I should leave Nuc on or send to wake.

Yeah, it's pretty slick. 650 well spent.
