Media Center Library

#1

Post by CarolinaGuy » Fri Sep 12, 2014 6:40 pm

Hello,

Have been a reader of Green Button for quite a while but this is my first post.

On one of my Win 7 computers I am unable to set up the Media Library.

When I go to the TASKS > SETTING > MEDIA LIBRARY > VIDEOS > next I get this error

Media Library
A Necessary component of Windows Media Center did not start properly. Restart Windows Media Center.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Media Center several time and restarting Media Center does not solve the problem.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

1st random idea:

Have you tried setting up the libraries in windows media player at all? Just to see if you get an error... Or see any issues...

2nd idea:

Have you installed any codecs / codec packs?

No codecs installed - have tried libraries, no success.

I would go to: Tasks/Settings/General/Windows Media Center Setup, and re-run all of it.

Also I would run Windows Update and get everything available there too.

Isn't Libraries a sharing thing? I wonder if the network might need a little tweak.

What happens if you right click a media file (music / video / picture) in windows explorer and select open with media center?

Do they all play OK?

If I right Click, Music and Video and select play with Window Media Player I get "Class not Registered"

Thanks for all the help I will be at my computer fro the next couple of Hours.

I have completely uninstalled, re-installed and set up everything for WMC.

If I select a MKV file and choose open with Windows Media center I get "Windows Media center cannot open the file.

If I select the MKV file from within Media Browser the same MKV file plays most likely because it is using VLC to play the MKV.

Sounds like you need to install the registry modification and codec I would recommend shark007 and the reg mod can be found at hack7mc. Be careful not to install the spam/adware on shark007

You only need to install a splitter in order to play .mkv files

I prefer the haali matroska splitter one from here:

http://haali.su/mkv/

Just run through the installer, double click a .mkv file and tick the box / choose yes if WMP asks about opening filetypes.
