Refresh Rate - 59 or 60?

The answer probably gets complicated, but I have always wondered if I should set the refresh rate on my Media Center PC to 59 or 60 (running at 1080P on Windows 7). My video card is an AMD HD6570 going into a new Sony LCD (60W850B) via HDMI. I don't really see a difference either way, other than the very occasional twitch in video, which, when it happens, I wonder if it is the refresh rate. I usually run at 59. Thoughts?

59.97Hz which can be reported by both TV and drivers/GPU as 60Hz.

Nvidia I think reports as 59Hz, whereas my ATI says 60Hz. My Samsung TV reports 1080p 60 for a 59.97Hz feed.

If you get the option for 59Hz from Windows pick it. That will be 59.97Hz for the desktop. Media Center should give correct option.

60 Hz = 60 Hz
59 Hz = 59.9401 Hz
30 Hz = 30 Hz
29 Hz = 29.97 Hz

WMC has its own refresh rate setting that is independent of the Windows refresh rate setting, so if you want 59.9401 Hz in WMC, you have to set that in WMC. Personally I prefer to have both set to 59.9401.

Apologies, I was thinking about 29.97Hz interlaced video but Richard ironed it out.

Media Center will usually pick (highlight) the right choice as long as it is available for it at the time.
