Bump!

Regarding this previous post: Has anyone got W7CallerID working modemless with VOIP using a European ISP?
joecrow wrote:Hi
I am really interested in this program particularly the WMC plugin but need some help and advice on setting it up. I have a VOIP telephone system consisting of a Siemens DX600 Gigaset (ISDN) plus Dect handsets and an analogue fax both connected to a DSL router (Fritzbox 7390), additionally the DX600 has a LAN connection to my network via the Fritzbox. I have installed Asterisk and downloaded and installed the trial version of CallerID but it is not all clear to me how I should use/modify the Asterisk templates and Setup W7callerID. Should I setup to connect to the Fritzbox (TAPI utility installed), the DX600 which also does caller ID and address book or something else? I am assuming I can use the modemless VOIP setup but it is not clear to me if my IP, (1und1 Germany), is Asterisk compliant, can't find any info on this! If anyone can offer me advice please be aware I am very much a novice in telephony and networking.

OK, then I guess the answer is no.

Sorry W7CallerID but no sale from me! :(

Does this plugin work with Magic Jack? I'm not sure what the difference would be but note that other talking about issues with VoIP phone. (On another note, is there such thing as POTS anymore)

One other question was regarding USB adapters. What Hardware today will work with this plugin.

Thanks,

How long does it normally take to get the activation code when you purchase this software?

I purchased and was billed on Feb. 12 and have yet to see anything.

I like this software, but have hit the trial limit - would love to continue using it.

I use it with Magic Jack and it works great. I enjoy having caller-id on my main HTPC and on my extenders, it works well and I'm happy with it. However, if you make any changes to your system (I.E. add a new video card, or modem...etc...) it will require a new activation number. I had to request a new number form the developer and he responded very quickly.

Hope this helps...

I haven't been paying much attention to this thread, but to answer CharlieWayne's other questions...

Magic Jack isn't exactly the same as the VOIP that others are talking about. They are talking about VOIP services/servers that actually pass IP packets directly to VOIP handsets inside your home. Magic Jack converts VOIP to analog telephone signals... so what comes out of the RJ-11 jack on the dongle is the same thing you'd get from a POTS circuit.

Yes, there is still such a thing as POTS. Ma Bell would be happy to run some copper wires to your house and sell you telephone service. I haven't had a home phone since 2004, but I would imagine that the telco's probably offer competitive pricing to the cableco's... otherwise, who would sign up for their service? One benefit to POTS is that it works even if the power is out. And if you live in my area of Florida... all of the POTS lines are buried and pumped full of nitrogen gas (to keep the water out)... so they still work after a hurricane too.

I use the OOMA VOIP system so that I have a home phone without paying my local phone company or Comcast about $45 a month (without having to use a cheesy seeming device like magic jack or a VOIP monthly fee that's almost as high as the phone company). If you go the basic service - after you buy the box (around $100), the only cost is you have is the monthly utility taxes that Ooma is required to collect (same as you would pay for a landline - for me that's about $5). They have 'advanced features' that you can pay for that would raise your monthly cost to about $12 a month if you want those (includes a second phone number and other features).

It works great with W7CallerID because the entire house's phone wiring plugs into the Ooma box, and any device in the house thinks it sees a normal POTS line.

Really like the looks of this plugin, but I went to the site and not thrilled with the instructions for getting Sip providers to work.

Anyone have this set up with their sip provider ??

Is the plugin even still supported ??

I have just downloaded W7 Caller Id and installed it on my Windows 7 (x64) machine, but when I try to configure my modem using the Scan button I get the exception below.

I have a USB modem installed, and connected to my telephone line. The modem is listed as “USB SoftV92 Data Fax Modem” in Device Manager. If I query the modem using the Diagnostics option I get a successful result.

The modem appears to be functioning correctly as when I try to set up a dial-up connection using the native Windows 7 facility I hear a dial tone and it attempts to dial the number.

Any idea what the problem might be?

I have magic jack, an HTPC and Win7 CallerID. How do you get the magi jack caller ID to show up the HTPC/Win7 CallerID? So you have a CallerID capable modem in the HTPC? I bought one but it didn't work. Which one do you have?

Any phone line replacement gizmo that presents a POTS (plain old telephone system) phone jack and uses CID will work with CallerID.

Are you able to use standard telephones with the VOIP service? If so yes it will work. The host machine doesn't have to be the HTPC.

Got it set up and working. There are some non-intuitive settings - like the setting for the MCE plugin (using the actual computer name, not "localhost"). And importation of Gmail contacts requires you set Google to accept 'less secure apps'. I used the Hiro USB modem.

And the non-appearance of the MCE plugin in the WMC Extra's menu s interesting. It's in the list and checked for display, but I guess it doesn't need to display as you apparently can only access it from the host computer's tray..

I got away with using YAC which came before this app for our businesses. I think CallerID is based on YAC code. CID goes to seven different machines scattered around. Very handy for staff.

Bumping the thread as I just installed the software recently with almost no issues. The host computer is running Windows 8.1 x64. I bought the USB 56k V90 FAX V.92 Conexant 93010 External MODEM that is recommended on the hardware page on w7callerid.com.

The only issue I had was installing the driver for the modem. I believe my 8.1 machine had not been updated in awhile so the wrong driver got installed. It gave an error "unknown usb device link in compliance mode". I found somewhere that it was resolved in some sort of Windows rollup. So I uninstalled the driver and made sure I had all of the latest updates and then was able to insert the usb modem and have it be properly recognized.

I was unsure if the modem would work because most of the listings showed only up to Windows 7 as supported.

The other issue I ran into is importing contacts from gmail into the server program. It doesn't seem to work if your account is setup with two step authentication even if you use an app password. If you use a normal gmail account without two step authentication, then it works fine. I reported the issue on the w7callerid forum. Hopefully the developer is able to fix it.

Searched around, i am either terrible with search today or there is no answer out there. Since Magickjackplus plugs into the PC, do I still need another internal modem to get win7callerid working? I gave it a shot without one, and it does not find any modem. Thus, I assume the answer is no. However, others report it working with mj+, and don't list a modem, so I sort of hoped there was no modem needed. The device itself should act as one.
