Search no longer works

I can download the Guide but I can no longer search it.

I looked in indexing options and it says indexing is not running.
I looked in 'Services' and it says that Indexing is set to automatic (delayed start) - I clicked on 'start' and it said something about the 'path' and wouldn't start.

I ran a sfc/scannow with administrative privileges and it came up clean.

FYI...I had set the indexing folder to an external drive rather than my SSD (saves wear-n-tear) but the external drive no longer works. I tried to change the file location but nothing will work. I tried to 'rebuild' the index but nothing happens.

I've run out of ideas
Any thoughts?

You can try this.. it may fix it.. it may not, but can't hurt to try.

Open Control Panel > Programs and Features on the left is Turn Windows Features on or off.
Under Media Features is Windows Media Center.
Uncheck the box to turn it off.
Reboot the PC after it removes Media Center.

After Reboot go back in and re-enable it. Let it reinstall Media Center (hopefully restoring all its files to default locations).
reboot again for good measure.

Run WMC and see if it's fixed... You may or may not have to reconfigure some of MC settings.. I take no responsibility if it breaks your Media Center! I have heard that doing this can sometimes fix issues with WMC.

You may want to make a image of your OS drive prior to this so you have a way back in case of some unforeseen catastrophic failure.

I had a search problem a while back & nothing seemed to fix it. Here's what I tried & it finally fixed it.
