WSE 2012 Domain Media Center Integration

#1

Post by CBO » Fri Apr 05, 2013 12:43 am

Hello all,

I just setup windows server essentials 2012. I configured a domain and worked through what I believe is a terrible wizard that migrates local accounts to domain accounts. But anyway is there integration with windows media center like with whs 2011? I can seem to find documentation on it.

Thanks

I believe there is not. I never use the recorded tv transfer feature but glad to know it's there. On the other hand, WSE 2012 does have me intrigued as my server is kind of running like poop right now. Are there any real advantages over whs 2011?

Storage space is cool. If you are use to how WHS 2011 ran you may be interested in running a reg key prior to running connector on machines that allows you to run it in workgroup mode. I am still looking at all the features though.

I have WSE 2012 and love it I have run WHS v1 and WHS 2011 and WSE12 blows all of them out of the water. As far as I know there is not any integration with WMc. There are probably some apps you can install to do it, but I guess manual moves would work and just add that folder into WMC.

If you'd rather like to keep your clients in a WORKGROUP mode and still make them meber of the WS2012E server (for backup etc...) you can alter the registry of the client BEFORE connecting to the server:

Go to the key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Server\ClientDeployment

and add a DWORD-value named SkipDomainJoin
Give it the value 1

Now run the wizard via http://yourWS2012E/Connect and your Media Center will remain in Workgroup mode.
