Hi,
Downloaded the W8 Pro service software.:
It wont install at all.
I get an error message:
The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the
command line sxstrace.exe tool for more details.
Any idea's?

You are most likely missing a Visual C++ redistributable
You will find the tool in "C:\Windows\System32", to use it do the following
1. Open up a command prompt (as administrator) and run the following command
c:\windows\system32\sxstrace Trace -logfile:sxstrace.log
2. Try to start the service that seems to be failing
3. Once the error has been thrown, go back to first command prompt and press any key to stop the tracing.
4. Now issue the following command
c:\windows\system32\sxstrace Parse -logfile:sxstrace.log -outfile:sxstraceInfo.txt
The results of the trace will be in readable format within the generated text file.
A few other questions:
Was this an upgrade from Windows 7? If so were MMC services already installed? Is WMC setup and installed correctly and you restarted the PC?

Yes this is a Windows 7 Ultimate that had WMC runing on it, upgraded to W8 Pro, and I just bought the W8 MC pack and tried to install the service.
W8MC is currently working.
So once I go through all the steps and extract the log file whats next after that?

Just to add a quick point of interest.
THis is actually the same PC......but completely rebuilt with windows 7 ultimate.
My original post, the same PC was Windows 8 Pro...upgraded from WIndows 7 ultimate.
I dont know if that helps.

One question for you is did you install any pre-release version of .net 4.5?
Also another question is. When it was Windows 7 did you have the MMC services installed on it? If so did you uninstall before installing the Windows 8 version of the MMC services?

Is the old Windows 7 My Media Center services still installed on the PC?
