Well done setting this up!

I found it confusing on the Microsoft website - also we need obviously need a GB section for our specific problems/requirements.

Nice work, boys!

Just found the new site via some casual browsing around some other forums...I've just dropped in at the WEC to see all sorts of stuff kicking off. For me, the original TGB was something I'd be able to quickly browse for a few mins here & there and contribute where I thought necessary. The forums at WEC are still (for me) slow and cumbersome to navigate; a quick browse in my lunch hour at work no longer seemed enjoyable. I'm certainly not a Philistine, I take on board change as much as the next IT bloke, but I have to admit, despite my commitment to Media Centre I took a few looks at the WEC and thought I can't be dealing with that right now, I'll have a look later - and later inevitably turns into never.

I've bookmarked this site already.

Cheers

Can someone explain the profile badges people have, are they related to the original TGB in some way?
Regards,
Neill

Hi

I am Richard from the UK, I am married with 3 kids. Started with MCE2005 on a P4 based rig then moved onto two Atom based systems running Vista and just recently W7. Currently have Zotac IONITX based system but may upgrade to more capable CPU soon. Use MC in lounge for music, photos, vid-cam, a few ripped DVDs, real DVDs, iplayer and a bit of browsing. I used to use MC for live TV and recording (hauppauge and AverMedia) but recently bought a Humax HDR-FOX T2 box for that (boo, hiss I here you saying). I like my systems to be quiet and low power with eco in mind. I am a tech fan also likes the latest Android smartphones. I like building my own systems nothing too difficult, I would consider buying.

Thanks for the help I have been given already.

Regards
Richard

wow. I wasn't expecting this.

I've been drifting in in and out of TGB for the last year. Last time was when MS acquired the forums and i couldn't navigate them so gave up

For those who remember i created vista4cast weather plugin many moon ago. I don't have the time to keep it updated/add new feature :( Can someone give me pointers on how to setup and maintain opensource software? I seem to recall there was a member "tester" i think who was keen on adding features.

Anyway, i'll have a browse round and see what new in the world of TGB :)

Cheers Rich, I am pleased to see most people are keeping there original usernames :D It make life a bit easier remembering who is who. There are a lot of names i recognise ;)

Is there a thread/post to explain what happened to the old site. I remember MS taking over TGB and saying that they were not going to change it, then the forum changed and become crap.

This site is now here, Well done getting this set up :D :D

Hi Everyone

It's great to find TGB up and runing again. I've been using MCE 2005 on a Dell 8400 since 2005 with a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-500 dual tuner and joined the old TGB in June of 05. I record an average 5 hours per week and if I think something is work keeping, I use VideoReDo to edit and burn DVDs. While my system is getting old, it still works great, until a few weeks ago when my program guide was not updating. After some Google searching, I discovered that the new TGB was available. And as usual, I found something on my problem http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/vie ... f=5&t=1108. Not only was I not alone, but MS was already aware of the problem. And the fix was put into place recently. Once again TGB saves the day
I can't wait to explore more of the site to see what new tips I can pick up.

Hi all,
About 2 months ago, a co-worker introduced me to WMC7. I've been lurking on the site for about a month now, reading a lot of the posts. Seems to be a real helpful bunch, and I hope that I will be able to contribute. It's amazing that I've never played around with WMC before, considering I am an IT professional. Anyway, I've caught "the bug." In the last month, I've been building my plan to get WMC throughout my home, so I may get rid of the awful set-top boxes provided by TWC.
Currently, I have my rig half-built (only 250GB HDD), and I borrowed a Hauppauge 1250 from my friend to run some tests, etc. Looking at the Ceton infiniTV.
Unfortunately, I don't believe I'll be able to "go live" with WMC as quickly as I'd like. I still need to re-route some coax and CAT5e. I still need to plunk down the cash for my Ceton infiniTV (PCIe) and the storage. I'm also anxiously awaiting the Ceton Echo... I'll be getting at least 2 of those. (Hint to Ceton... release the Echo first!)
So at this point, I'm just running WMC7 through its' paces, and playing with my XBox360 as an extender. In the mean time, I'll be bugging the forum for a lot of random general knowledge.
