Clean Windows 7 WMC Playready Challenges
Microsoft is making it harder to install Playready for WMC TV setup. Posting for anyone else that goes through this.
Decided it is time to reformat my HTPC C: drive and have a clean WMC install. I completed Windows 7 install and installed all drivers without issue. I tried Windows update to get to SP1 and it fails (first time ever) and Playready update fails in WMC during TV setup (right after guide listing terms agreement). I had to do the following to get it working:
1. Update Windows 7 to SP1 (luckily I had a SP1 download handy).
2. Run Windows update loop fix that I've also had for awhile (V1.2). Windows update program found Windows 7 updates after running this.
3. Run Ceton Tuner config in WMC (if you have Ceton card)
4. Run TV setup. Click "no" for guide listing terms. Click "yes" for Playready terms. Playready downloaded and installed.
5. Run EPG123. Follow install directions step by step
EPG123 didn't respond well when Playready failed to download during setup. I'll post for Gary in EPG123 forum.

Where can I get the "Windows update loop fix" you noted? I'm having Playready issue on one machine and may try this.

This looks like it. It's a batch script on the program I have. I have a 32bit and 64bit version.

What worked for me is installing Playready manually from its exe file. It wasn't listed in Win7's program list initially so I don't know how it worked for years.
Once installed, MC setup went through fine.

I just did a clean install and am running into a PlayReady install/update issue. All I can find for help is what's mentioned in this thread. My problem is there's nothing in the PlayReady folder (yes, I've set the folder settings to display hidden file/folders). This leads me to think PlayReady isn't actually installed. Do you have a link to this exe you mention?

While I try to figure this out, you can go directly to the files here. https://github.com/garyan2/garyan2.gith ... nloads/DRM
Or at least should be able to.

Hi,
Bringing this back up as I am using an HDHOMErun prime digital cable card box. I cant find any other application that will work like WMC will so I have to use Windows 7. Anyway my HTPC in my bedroom took a dive so I got a Lenovo AMD Think Center Ultra Small Form factor thats about 7 years old and loaded Windows 7 on it. Using Windows 7 on newer devices is hard to setup and I have this working on a similar Think Center that I setup for Win7 WMC about 3 years ago and thats working fine. I dont recall having so many issues trying to get past the PlayReady update.
Here is what I have done so far
- Setup Windows Media Center. Skipped the guide because I know that doesn't work and I intend to use EPG123
- Downloaded and installed PlayReadyPC_x64_v1.3.10.msi ( Made sure the AMD version was installed)
- After that was unsuccessful I download and installed ResetDRM.zip
- Repeated PlayReadyPC_x64_v1.3.10.msi install
- Made sure that Internet was set to always on in in WMC
I got everything working but the protected channels working. Where am I going wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
DDD

I see no mention of the Digital Cable Advisor, which must be run from the WMC Extras tile, once installed. This makes adjustments to WMC in order to support DRM.

Hi sorry yes I ran that first, my bad for not mentioning. It ran and said your PC is digital cable compatible. I have verified that as the card is working and getting non-protected channels.

Hello, I have the same issues as everyone else... clean Win 7 install, just as previously outlined from others, can't get past the Playready update. WMC says no internet connection, so will not update through WMC.
Tried all of Gary's executable files for playready and Digitalcableadvisor. Just can't get it going again. Using HDHomerun Prime tuners. It sees the tuners, non-subscription channels are coming in.
Have another Win 7 PC which is working fine (2019 build date though). Any chance I can use system files from that PC? The Playready folder on the fresh build PC in ProgramData\Playready folder is all empty, except for mspr.hds file. The other PC shows .dll files in there and a license I think. Any help apprieciated. This forum has been a huge help to me throughout the years - Thanks.

Sorry guys, mis-spoken info in the above post - for the information contained in my working PC Playready folder are key files, not .dlls. There is a hidden folder "Cache" with more key files in it from a few different years (registration entries). An attempt to copy these files to the new W7 build PC didn't work out.
