HDHomeRun Flex 4K with Win7 WMC?

#1

Post by Condor » Wed Aug 28, 2024 5:39 pm

I just received a notice from my cable provider Optimum that my CableCARD will stop working in October 2024. I've been using a HDHomeRun PRIME (HDHR3-CC) with Win7 WMC since 2013, but it now looks like Optimum is finally cutting the cord on the CableCARD.

I would like to switch to OTA and was looking at the HDHomeRun Flex 4K (HDFX-4K) with an Antennas Direct ClearStream 4V antenna.

My main concern is whether the HDHomeRun Flex 4K will work with Win7 WMC 32-bit. I can't find a definitive answer on the SiliconDust website.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks!

I would say yes, you will be able to use the HDFX-4K with Win7 WMC but you still won't be able to watch ATSC 3.0 in WMC.

Yes. I use one with Win8MC. Although if I just wanted to record ATSC 1.0 OTA I would use the SiliconDust DVR. I only still use Win8MC to support a combination of Primes on Spectrum + OTA.

Thank you for those replies. I was pretty certain that it would work but it's reassuring to get confirmation.

I understand that ATSC 3.0 channels cannot be watched with WMC. I'll be happy to just to get good ATSC 1.0 OTA reception from 63.6 miles away!

Is there any other use for the PRIME once CableCARD stops working?
