Local HD channels stopped playing

#1

Post by cs51762 » Thu Jul 18, 2024 4:01 pm

Hi, folks,

This morning, I found that none of my local (Charlotte, NC) HD channels play. Local SD channels do play. Media Center says "No TV Signal There is currently no TV signal detected for this channel.". Spectrum cable TV. HDHomeRun tuners. HDHomeRun app plays them fine. Using EGP123. Anyone have an idea? Thank you so much.

Reconfigure Tuners:
Go to Settings > TV > Set Up TV Signal in WMC.
Follow the prompts to reconfigure your tuners. This can sometimes resolve issues with signal detection.
Check Tuner Status:
Go to Settings > TV > Guide > Set Up Your TV Signal.
Ensure that your tuners are recognized and properly set up.
HDHomeRun Setup:
Open the HDHomeRun Setup app or web interface and check the signal strength and status of the channels.
Ensure that the HD channels are being received correctly.
Signal Issues:
If the signal strength is low or there are errors, you may need to check your cable connections or contact Spectrum for assistance with signal issues.
Update Channel Lineup
Refresh Channel Lineup:
Sometimes the channel lineup in WMC needs to be refreshed.
Go to Settings > TV > Guide > Update Channel Lineup and follow the prompts to refresh the guide data.
Check EPG123 Configuration:
Ensure that EPG123 is configured correctly and has updated the guide data properly.
You can also try refreshing the guide data in EPG123.
Check CableCard and Tuner Adapter
Power Cycle:
Power down the HDHomeRun tuners and the CableCard adapter.
Wait a few minutes, then power them back on.
Check CableCard Status:
Make sure the CableCard is properly paired and activated with Spectrum.
Reseat Connections:
Check all cable connections between your CableCard, tuners, and TV service.
Check Windows Media Center Logs
Event Viewer:
Open Event Viewer (press Win + X, select Event Viewer).
Look for any errors related to Windows Media Center or TV tuner issues in the logs.
Media Center Logs:
Check the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\ehome\ directory for any log files that might provide additional information on what’s causing the issue.
Test with Different Sources
Test Other Channels:
Check if the problem is specific to HD channels or if it affects all channels.
Try watching different HD channels to see if the problem persists across all of them.
Test HDHomeRun App:
Since the HDHomeRun app plays the channels fine, it can help to verify if the issue is isolated to WMC or if there might be a broader problem

Thanks for all of the info, golferiguana. Update: The evening of my post, the channels were working again. However, the next morning, they were gone again, execpt that two or three of the channels had a picture, but they were horribly pixelated. The HDHomeRun configuration app shows a signal strength of 84%, which is about the same as other channels. I'll start checking the things on golferiguana's list.

The problem is fixed. I did three things: 1) Disconnected/reconnected all cable connections, including outside the house. 2) Powered off/on tuners, tuning adapters, and network switch. 3) Changed port on network switch that PC was connected to. I'm thinking that of the three, redoing cable connections was the fix. Thanks.
