Thanks for your post spanner. I just downloaded the Amazon App Store app and to my surprise, the MMC app is still listed. I bought another copy of My Media Center for $4.99 and just installed it on my tablet and my S23. It appears to be working great!! Lets hope it lasts! I've just spent 3 days with Google Play Store support and the bottom line was essentially ...""the only thing we can help you with is downloading and installing apps we currently support. Sorry we did something that disabled the license on your legacy app but we don't have the ability to fix that"

For the first time ever, I am getting a warning message that prevents me from using the MMC app. The message reads "Application Not Licensed. This application is not licensed. Please purchase it from Android Market" This first appeared on my Samsung Tab5Se last week and just yesterday on my Samsung S23+. It obviously prevents the app from loading due to lack of license verification. I suspect there was a recent update to Google Play that has caused this. The app is ancient and no longer offered/supported by Google Play. There is no record anywhere in my Google Play account of my purchase or of a history of having the app. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling my copy of the app and no love. I downloaded the copy linked on this page with the same result. Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone have any suggestions on what to try as a workaround? There are multiple sites recommending using an app called Lucky Patcher to disable the license verification code in the app but I am suspicious of the validity/safety of the app and am reluctant to try it.
Is there a workaround for the "Application Not Licensed" error when trying to use the MMC APK on Android? I would be very happy if you could let me know, thanks

Cool TY!!

i got it to work on my Android phone today. and next i can buy a tablet for the kitchen and install it.

my old tablet broke a few months ago. and now i know that MMC with work on a replacement.

Note: the only reason i had an Android Tablet in the kitchen, on a stand; was so when i blasted water -- to quickly wash dishes in the middle of watching WMC and couldn't her TV in next room; i could quickly pause from MMC on the Tablet. It was bliss and will once again. :)

I also have this working on my S21FE. One of the differences I notice between this and the iOS version is no thumbnails. I see them in the iOS version but not the android version. I don’t see anything to enable them in the settings. Anyone else having a different experience?

scrolling through thumbnails of movies is a feature that is on the IOS version and was never available on android. I had a apple phone for a short while and really liked that feature

forgive me, I got this app mixed up with another app that is having the same issue (dvd profiler). I am unsure about any differences with the MMC app on IOS and android, sorry for the misinformation

It used to. viewtopic.php?t=9916&hilit=mmc#p105863

I figured it was due to using a proxy server now, but I opened and forwarded ports on my router for this to test it out. Still no go for any images in the app but no problem using a browser on my phone. I'm thinking something in the newer versions of Android has broken that feature.

Certainly no longer successful to install the final 1.3.6.5 APK version (from 2014?) using any tool.

I've tried ADBLINK2 on the PC, and also APK Installer on the phone (my Samsung S21 Ultra) and both complain about "incompatible with the phone" in one form or another.

(a) ADBLINK2 is unhappy about the "target SDK 18 specified in the APK, but target SDK 23 is now required). Phone has upgraded to Android 14 One UI 6.0 just in the past month or two. But reports of the "no valid Google license" when launching previously installed MMC were reported back in 3rd-quarter 2023. So it may be a combination of things.

(b) APK Installer on the phone simply says "app not compatible with your phone", which may be the same issue(s) as ADBLINK2 is unhappy with.

I've tried uninstalling the app from my S21U, and then re-purchasing the MMC app through Amazon for $4.99. The purchase goes through, but the app never shows up ready for installing in "My Apps" on the Amazon Appstore app on the phone. Perhaps because it is discovered to be an "un-licensed" app now, and Amazon just won't deliver it to the cloud for my installation. They are happy to refund the $4.99 when you call.

I also still own my original Samsung S4 (which I retained, rather than using as a "trade-in" for a few bucks back in 2016 when I upgraded to an S7). I actually had MMC installed on that S4 phone which was running Android 5. Even though there's no active SIM card or phone number in use, it still works fine for any remaining apps on that phone that will still work through internet-only, using a Wifi-only connection to the internet. Amazingly, MMC still fails to launch even running Android 5, again because of the "no Google license" problem. This points to licensing as the culprit, and not the Android version.

Unless somebody smart and who has the proper programming tools and knowledge can (a) unpack the APK back into its component software files, and then (b) repackage the component software files into a new APK that is validly "target SDK 23", there is no chance this app will ever work again on Android 14 and newer.

But even if the app can be repackaged into a modern up-to-date APK, there is still the issue of the Google license. I suspect this isn't free. But I'm sure it would be possible to get the handful of WMC/MMC users who really would like this app back to all chip in to pay whatever that cost might be, assuming it's even possible to do that without our being Ceton and assuming the cost is "reasonable". I know I would gladly chip in or even pay for it myself, depending on what that license cost might be.

In fact, it might be worth it just to pursue self-funding the Google re-licensing idea, to eliminate that part of the problem. It then may be that currently installed MMC apps would immediately start working again.

But for me and my S21U where I've uninstalled it as part of my flailing to get things to work, I would need to somehow recover it. Since I can't install it using ADBLINK2 or APK Installer having nothing to do with the Google license but because it's an old APK version now seemingly unacceptable to Android 14, I'm not sure how to proceed. I do have several usable "backups" (taken with Samsung Smart Switch) but I'd need to contact Samsung to see if it is possible to restore just a unique app. Still total fantasy, if we ever get that far.

Anyway, I think it's lights out, EOL, for MMC.

Strangely there are isolated reports of MMC somehow still working for some people, at least one using an S20 still running Android 13 OneUI 5.2, but I don't know how that can really be if the Google license is truly expired.

==> I have created a new "Answers thread" in the "EPG123" forum, which provides all the known information about getting the Ceton MMC Companion app to install and operate as best as can be hoped for.

I realize that this would have been the more appropriate forum for it, but I'd already tried to get the involvement of EPG123 experts over on that forum with a "questions" thread.

So I figured I might as well put the "answers" thread there as well.

Please put any additional information you might have over on that thread, if it is relevant to the things I talk about there.
