MXF failed to load the past few days

A few days ago I started getting an error loading the mxf using EPG123 version 1.7.1.12 that's
been working OK for the past year.

So I updated to EPG123 version 1.8.2.2, cleared the cache, and still get an error loading the mxf.


1) Is there anything I can to do fix this?

2) Why is 1.8.2.2 doing an XMLTV file update?

I thought I didn't have XMLTV enabled in the EPG123 settings, yet I see it creating
two small extra files in the output folder in addition to the mxf that were never there before.

It looks like you have Garbage Collection (GC) disabled (NoGC: True) in the logs, however I assume these were manually initiated by you (which I believe disables GC) and the logs are not from the automatic run that is started by the Task Manager.

If the version run from the Task Manager is also disabling GC and you don't have a separate process that does this, your WMC database can become corrupted, which may be why you are having this issue with importing the MXF file.

If you have GC disabled, you can try running it to fix the WMC database, otherwise you may have to rebuild the WMC database using the "Rebuild WMC Database" button.

Before doing anything, you may want to wait to hear from Gary, in case he has other suggestions.

When performing a [Save & Execute] or use the notification tray 'Update Guide Now', the garbage collection is disabled for that run. Only the scheduled task will automatically include GC or you use the CLI to perform an update without using the -nogc option.

2) Why is 1.8.2.2 doing an XMLTV file update?

I forgot about this question. EPG123 is not creating an XMLTV file. Those 2 extra files are the MXF file compressed using either gzip or deflate. I automatically create these to avoid doing compression on the fly if you have a client requesting the MXF file over the network using http. So rather than sending your 87 MB MXF file over the network, it will then instead send a compressed version which will probably be around 15 MB. Which one it sends depends on what the http request says it can support with gzip being the preferred.

I also have a large, older, mxfExport.mxf file in the output directory. What is this used for and under what conditions is it created? Should it be there?

I haven't found any use for it. If you run epg123client with the -x option, you get 2 additional buttons. One is Store Explorer to view the contents of the WMC database. The other is to export the database as a mxf file. At some point in time, you did that. You can delete without issue.

The xmf file is saved to "c:\epg123\output\epg123.mxf", but is imported from "C:\epg123\epg123.mxf". If I copy the mxf file from output to the root directory, and run "Update Guide Now", it processes the copied file.

I edited the argument in the task. It works now. This is strange, I've been using the program for years and don't recall ever seeing this problem until a few days ago.

Up until version 1.7.3.5, I had automatically corrected for tasks pointing to the old location to import the correct mxf file in the "new" location. Every time it had to make that correction, it would generate a warning in your log file, status icon, and notification tray color would be yellow. The log entry would have been "It appears the MXF file to import is incorrect. Changing the import file from "c:\epg123\epg123.mxf" to "c:\epg123\output\epg123.mxf". Delete and re-create your Scheduled Task." I figure a few years with this warning was enough.

Starting with 1.8.0.0, I removed that correction and the result is the user will get an error for an old mxf file being imported.

I'm really sorry to be such a nuisance about this. You'd never know I spent over 40 years in software development. I never even noticed you had a System Tray app until very recently. I guess I'm losing a step in my old age.

I have another request, if you don't mind it being off topic to this thread.

Where can I find the Wish List requests that are listed in the "Series" tab under the "view scheduled" screen in WMC? I found a file named "recordings.xmf" in a backup file which contains wish list requests, but it's about two months old.

The Transfer tool has newer data, but not the most recent, and I can't tell where it's getting its entries from and I doesn't support copy/paste.

Can I manually extract the wish list from WMC?

Not sure exactly what you are asking for, but maybe the info below will help.

In the Transfer Tool, the right side of the form is what is currently in the WMC database for recording requests. It will always be the most current.

The left side will be whatever mxf file was opened from a backup, being the zip file created by the client for a [Backup] operation or your own.

WMC keeps/maintains the recordings.mxf in the ProgramData location. c:\programdata\microsoft\ehome\mcepgX-Y\backup\recordings. The filenames are just timestamps with no extension, but the latest file is what epg123 will archive in the zip file as recordings.mxf.

There is no export because it is not needed.
