More info in WebStats for EPG123 Service

#1

Post by garyan2 » Sat Mar 05, 2022 6:39 pm

It has been a while since I changed anything in the webstats page for the service. On the latest release v1.7.1.4, I decided to add the total size in bytes of the cached images. I also added a quick look of the MXF and XMLTV files with date/time and size. You can quickly see if there is an issue with updates if the dates are more than a day old (assuming your update task is running daily) and the text turns red.
Status
Uptime: 00 days, 00 hours, 37 minutes, 15 seconds
Registry watcher running: True
Number of cached images: 5296 (192,587,446 bytes)
Download limit exceeded: False
Number of token refreshes: 0
Valid token: True

MXF file date/size: 3/5/2022 4:22:27 AM (16,172,268 bytes)
XMLTV file date/size: 3/5/2022 4:22:32 AM (29,466,486 bytes)
So I am curious. Since it has been a while since 1.7.x release adding the service, folks image cache should be pretty much matured by now. Anyone want to share what their usage looks like? My lineup is fairly small compared to a lot of you and I wonder what normal usage looks like on the larger lineups.

Can this be correct or do I have to perform a Save/Execute?

If you did not enable image caching, then it is correct.

My cache has been slowly building. The previous night's update was around 40 images and last night's update grew to 110.

I think you might misunderstand how the cache works. It will only download and cache an image if a client requests an image. So as you scroll through the WMC guide, the cache will grow. Same for any other clients that may request a program image.

It really doesn't make sense to enable the cache for a stand-alone. If you have multiple clients then I would encourage the cache to reduce image requests to SD. For stand-alones, you're just duplicating what WMC is already caching.

HI

"It really doesn't make sense to enable the cache for a stand-alone."

I enable the cache for my stand-alone system.
Otherwise won't images disappear when SD is unreachable or decides not to serve those images
any more?

Sorry. I keep talking in terms of the guide, but yes, for recorded shows without the cache there is a possibility that images would "disappear."

You could put any number of scenarios after this statement and be correct. There's a phrase that keeps popping up in my mind over these past few decades, "The older I get, the more things I realize I know little (or nothing) about."

When I was young I knew everything!

Any downside to caching on a stand alone setup?

None, other than taking up some drive space.
