Hmmm... I wonder why that barnabas1969 guy was pursued so relentlessly by that STC guy.

Hi @STC! How are you?

I'm doing quite well. I moved away from WMC and bought a Tivo system. It works great.

Sincerely,

I still use Windows Media Center with the Media Browser plugin with Media Center Master ( to supply multimedia images and details) soley for organising my video files of tv shows and cinema films. It works perfectly and I see no reason to change to anything else. I now have 20 TB of files & the system never puts a foot wrong. I have supplemented the system with extra codices supplied by K-Lite & also have a version of Cyberlink PowerDVD for playing Blu Rays & I use the excellent DVDFab for ripping Blu Rays down to decent size. Even on an old Dual Core E8500/W7 I am able to do that in about 20 minutes since DVDFab uses the modest video card ( Nvidea Geoforce GTX 750ti) to do the heavy lifting. My box behaves just like any settop box as I have an infra red controller from Antec - Antec Veris Basic

All in all a nice system that any thing else would not improve on

I am bumping this thread. Long time person here, I kind of stepped back a little. My WMC system has been bullet proof, everything has been working fine. I really don't think of it like a PC any more.

It's still very quiet here...

Microsoft has a bad habit of ending good things? WIndows phone os? Windows 7? ( and what we get is the boat that is put to sea but unfinished. I bet I am not the only one here would just like a basic os like W7 that just keeps on getting security updates so it gets to the point it does not need any!). Like yours my W7 &W8.1 MC pcs have been bullet proof, just work.

Windows phone was great. I wish people would have bought them.

I used to use a Humax Freeview box long time ago for receiving terrestial tv in the Uk. It had limited storage that could not be increased and was frankly unreliable. Would periodically crash losing all the settings resetting its self and any way introduced a judder into some tv programmes, like a facial tick. Was irritating. Also getting progammes off of it meant re-recording into a dvd recorder I had in realtime through the analogue out( bad days) My MC boxes were a relief with completely digitial recordings that were un encrypted so all I had to do was to edit out the adverts

absolutely. I had a cheap cheap one, and it worked supremely well.

The interface was great. It's clear that when MS made Win8, it was ALL about the phones. Desktop were dragged along for the ride.

I kept hoping for their Android launcher to take over for that, but no.

The crickets are awfully loud in here. I’m kinda surprised how quiet it is. Am I really one of the few people left who thinks WMC is still the best option for a cable DVR?

Considering that the majority of posts have been about people having trouble getting EPG working or trying to do impossible things like make cablecards work on Windows 11 with WMC, maybe everyone else is just using WMC without problem, like I am.

Sadly after moving to a different state, ditching cable for OTA and then finally not being willing to shoehorn wmc into windows 10, I ditched my wmc while home system and went Roku with a table quad OTA DVR.

I still think wmc was the best thing out there... But streaming services & YouTube TV, etc are filling the rest in for me now.

(Sold my whole 6yr old mce 8.1 rig to coworker for $100... Turned it into a game server)
