Anybody out there already tested, if WMC would still run on Win 11?

Were you able to upgrade to Windows 11 and WMC 8.8.5 still worked without having to rebuild any of the WMC dll files?

It'd bet going to be same game like Windows 10. You'll take a update and it's gone. I wonder if Microsoft will give up on removing it.

Upgrading from 7 or 8.1 to 11 would lose WMC just like going to Windows 10.

Sorry, I did a Windows 10 upgrade to Windows 11 in a VM but, didn't have WMC installed.

I am just trying to see how well it runs and it's issues...

The 8.8.5 installer works fine after a clean install of Windows 11 on my new PC. (Windows 11 Pro 10.22000.71)

David, what about configuring the WMC? When it comes to TV setup WMC tries to download setup data depending upon country and region. And there my installation is hanging.... I guess Microsoft does no longer provide these data.

Do you kno what to do?

best regards

Michael

I installed Windows 11 on dual boot with 10 on my PC, and direcly installed WMC on 11 after that. Everything work fine except the red button while recording does not appear. I don't remember if this issue was already on the latest version on 10 or not. Things is, WMC on Windows 11 is now installed days ago, and i had three updates since then (22000.100, 120 and now 132). The 120 is a big one because it created a Windows.old folder, the two others were just about new features. The good news is that for none of these updates, i had to reinstall WMC: it works flawlessly, and have round corners :p. Will this situation last ? Wait and see

Now about this question

I continued to set up WMC and the next two steps (tuner detection and channel scan) workd fine. I used EPG123 after that for guide data. But in France, most of us use TNT on WMC and it has no big differnces between regions, so I guess my wourkaround will not be sufficient for US or other country use

Make sure that in the Start Menu > Programs > Start-up folder is a shortcut to ehtray.exe with the target set as C:\Windows\ehome\ehtray.exe /surviveehschedtermination this will keep the tray icon alive in the background and show the red symbol in the taskbar when recording. Also I think it helps keep the green button active to launch wmc via remote.

OK thanks for the reminder. In fact, the feature is already integrated on 8.8.5 by default, but I don't know why I turned it off on Startup Apps. My bad.

Have you tried running it as Administrator?

I needed to do this on my first try with Windows 11, which was an upgrade.

Wasn't the only thing that didn't go too well though.

I didn't need to on the next try, which was a fresh install.

Hi

Yes tried as administrator, as usual on install and then tried as admin from shortcut
No reaction.

Windows 11 comes from UUPDump.net, the best source , and was fresh installed.

General small teething issues for Win 11 for which I am now quite experienced.

Any instructions supplied on Windows 11 Forum
R U using Win 11 version .168, as previous versions seemed ok. ?
