WMC 8.8.5 not detecting HDHomeRun PRIME tuners

#1

Post by scottward01 » Thu Jan 21, 2021 8:26 pm

Hello - I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and installed WMC 8.8.5 in the hopes that it would detect my HDHomeRun PRIME tuners, as these are supposed to work 'out of the box' with WMC 8.8.5, but unfortunately WMC is saying it cannot detect any tuners in my system, despite the fact that they work fine with the native HDHomeRun App. I followed the troubleshooting steps on the SiliconDust website, but these seem a bit outdated (there is no HDHomeRun Service as an example) and didn't improve my situation: https://info.hdhomerun.com/info/windows ... erun_prime

Also, the command "C:\WINDOWS\system32>c:\windows\ehome\ehprivjob.exe /OCURDiscovery" seems to detect my tuners, but calls them 'unknown devices':
Ignoring unknown device 'HDHomeRun Prime Tuner 13244E7F-1'
Ignoring unknown device 'HDHomeRun Prime Tuner 13244E7F-0'
Ignoring unknown device 'HDHomeRun Prime Tuner 13244E7F-2'

Any ideas on why WMC isn't seeing my tuners?

So that post mentions that older (2015) HDHomeRun drivers should work with WMC 8.8.5. However after downloading and installing them, things didn't improve. My tuners still aren't being detected.

You need Windows10 1511 and you'll need a couple other things like PlayReady and Override Digital Cable Advisor. I'll send you a private message with a link to all the items I used to get it going on my PC. Just make sure you lock down the windows updates afterwards, use windows update blocker.

Honestly, turning off Windows update is a deal-breaker for me. I could have stayed with Windows 7 and had no issues with WMC, but that seemed like a dead end.
