Mugsy, did you uninstall WMC (not Windows 2004)? I have to do this every time there's a major Windows update. I never remember to do this before updating Windows, so I did this after discovering WMC doesn't work on 2004. Seems to be fine to do it that way. I have am happily running WMC 8.8.5 on several PCs with 2004 (all with various Hauppauge tuners), though there's really only one PC I use heavily. I don't have to reinstall wpg123 but I do have to reinstall WMC.

Initially, I rolled back Win10 to get 8.8.4 working again. But upon discovering 8.8.5, I installed the Win10 v2004 update again and tried to install 8.8.5 again, but it would not claiming it was "already installed" (could not confirm. It refused to run.)

I had to uninstall WMC in order to install 8.8.5, and when that still did not work, I had to install the "SQLLite" patch to get it working.

Somewhere along the line, I lost the "Preview" window when dragging the timeline. I wish I knew how to get it back.

i have had WMC for over 10 years. My win 8 machine is crashing constantly and I can't deal with it. I have a cable card and this version isn't working on WIn 10 Pro. When it downloads the Playready (and something else I missed) it gives an error. Works fine on OTA, but cable card isn't working. I went to install play ready directly from a download on M$ site and it said it was installed already. So I am not sure what the other application it tries to download ...

I tried to post on the link in the read me, but i can't register as I messed up the registration 3 times and now it thins I am a spam bot (my IP). oops.

WMC with cable card won't work on Win10 versions newer than 1511, I believe.

Just wanted to say thank you to the people doing this great work. I updated to Windows 10 v2004 and my WMC 8.8.4 wouldn't run of course. :? I tried several work arounds with no luck. Ran the uninstall script, rebooted, ran the Blue install bat, rebooted, and TADA! WMC is working again. You can't even begin to understand how happy this makes me. Keep rockin guys!

you may have to start indexing in windows for WMC. I had the same issue on a ver 1909 pc, and somewhere here is where I asked and was shown how to do that.

I think this is it

As a test, I copied a recorded WTV file to the SSD western digital and put it in documents folder. OS is on same SSD drive (windows boots in 5 seconds to working desktop)
It is associated with WMC, icon shows.
Right click, open
WMC loads quick, but it takes almost a minute of waiting with a blue screen (does show WMC icons if move mouse while waiting) before the video begins to play.

That is too long of a wait to load a video. Once loaded it can be scrolled through timeline fine.

Why is it taking so very long to load up the wtv file in wmc?

Is that normal if file is in a different place?

Copied to recorded TV, still incredible slow loading.

Checked VLC, loads the file instantly.

Does it work on october's windows release 20H2?
I can install and test to see if it runs

It starts up, but I wont configure it on this PC.

What are these registry fixes? 8.7 8.8, does the installer do that too.?

I still have my pc on Win 10 1909 running WMC v8.8.3. Should I wait to update to WMC v8.8.5 only if I plan to upgrade Win 10 20H2?

The Read Me says to run the outer installer.cmd script, but I cant find it. I have installerBlue.cmd and installerGreen.cmd, is it one of these?

Never Mind I figured it out.

Hi, first time poster for years, had an account but expired by now I guess, I'm running win10 20H2 x64, I've installed WMC v8.8.5 after trying installs of the older WMC versions until my research quickly brought me here when each failed due to the pesky windows feature update versions I've come to understand have hope dashing qualities, so I've got WMC working fine under 8.8.5, started up all fine, it identified my TV card which is a WinFast DTV2000DS (bit old, but hey so's WMC :P) and both its tuners which are recognized as AF9015 BDA Filters. When I first started with this card Windows 7 WMC showed they were WinFast DTV2000DS #1 and #2, but later AF9015 BDA Filters still under Win7, slight change of drivers but everything worked fine. I'm just trying to give troubleshooting info there. So WMC scanned my channels and found all the expected channels and the over the air EPG over here in Victoria, Australia, so it was able to access the signal, but when i try to actually play/access a channel, WMC tells me all the tuners are already in use. I"m kind of stumped here, I was using NextPVR for a bit, but I uninstalled that it was too awkward, I loved the ease of WMC's interface and recording/timeshifting, plus I have a WMC PC remote that half works for basic PC functions (LMB RMB, mouse pointer, up down left right enter), but the other half are specifically keyed to WMC shortcuts, so I'd love to get it working again....

I tried, that was useful thanks, so WMC does record a show, the file is intact, using VLC media player to open it does play the recording, however while the recording was ongoing, trying to play the start of the recording in WMC resulted in the same tuner is busy message, which is odd since the tuner isn't required to play the saved recording, even in part, and after the recording was complete WMC simply didn't play it, just stuck on the blue background it has. This leads me to think there's some kind of codec issue, now I have the Shark007 codec pack installed, I have had for many years, great pack, also I read that it can actually help in some cases with WMC, but could that be the issue? I also have PlayReady installed in case that might be the issue. None of the channels over here use the DRM that PlayReady is for, but still could be an issue, not sure.

I don't know about Shark007 because I've never used it.

It seems like you are unlucky as 8.8.5 appears to work for most people but it does seem that people on here and on MDL reporting issues using 8.8.X are mostly those with older tuners.

Some found that using V13 and the add-ons I created resolved the problem so it seems to be to do with the changes Microsoft made to MsVidCtl.dll.

As you are probably aware, V13 and the add-ons and utilities I created were only meant as a stop gap until a better solution could be found and I took them down due to concerns about introducing vulnerabilities into the system by rolling back system DLLs when V8.8.5 came out.

But I wonder whether the version of MSVidCtl in the ehome folder is what is causing the problem?

I'm currently studying an IT course over here in AUS and its almost Christmas so i wanna get it solved but 2 sides of a coin I guess ha, so I have my MSVidCtl file for you if that helps... its a mediafire link I don't know if they're allowed.... I'm also looking at my codecs in Shark007, I'd prefer not to uninstall it, like I said it's a great pack, I'm sure if that's the problem I can find the right codec.....

The best solution would be if Microsoft released the source code for WMP and WMC since they don't give a flying duck about them anymore? Protecting patents they don't use anymore, sigh... haha (WMP, optional removable feature in Win10 ha, why cause issues for the people who wanna use it right!?)

If it records we can find the codec...
